Which would yield the best results or is it a horse a piece? Does anyone have experience with this and what were your thoughts or recommendation?

Stands!

They need about 9" from the wall to sound best. They've been tested at 1" in the S30 thread and they were sufficient. I built stands and keep them about 1' from the wall.

Thanks so much for the info. I like the stands. How are you liking your speakers?

I absolutely love them. I've had them matched with an SB1000 subwoofer and they're just about the best combination I've ever heard.

I love them so much that I am replacing my entire Infinity Primus 5.1 set because my eyes are opened to better speakers now.

How are you enjoying yours?

I'm still moving them around and deciding what to do. They are amazing for their size. I currently have Polk monitor 70's which have more bass without the subwoofer but harder to get them to blend with it. They seem to cancel the bass somewhat. The 30's blend much better and seem to hit a little harder where the Polks seem to smooth over them. I had the Cambridge sitting on my under cabinet TV stand because I don't have stands. I just moved them to on top of the Polks to get more separation between them and they sound much better even though they are too high. So now that I've pretty much decided to keep them, I need to decide on stands or wall mounts. I figured if wall mounts were used, I could put the subwoofer where one of the towers were instead of to the rear right corner where it is now and they would be safe from the grandson. Do you have the center channel also or are you just doing 2.1? I'm watching a movie right now with the Polk center switched of and not missing it much.

Just 2.1 with the clarity of the S30's I have no interest in their center channel. I'm very happy the way it is. In the picture I have the BIC F12 because I'm trying the SB1000 in the living room. There is a huge difference in quality between the two. What sub are you using?

This is a crazy idea but if you're feeling like the Polks and the sub cancel each other out, try to invert the phase of the sub. I read somewhere today that that made a huge difference. Worth a shot!

I have tried inverting the phase on the sub and don't find the results satisfactory. I have a Velodyne SPL series sub, its a compact sub with a 10 woofer a very high power amp. I get way better bass out of the sub with the S30's with all settings the same. The sub is pointing right to left in the room, maybe that's why the phase doesn't have much affect on the sound. Maybe if the sub was facing back to front it would make a difference. That's why I would like to try it facing the same way as the front speakers like it looks like you have yours which I would have a hard time doing with the towers or using stands, although it sounds very good where it is now with the 30's. Doe they get too boomy when they are closer to the wall? I'll get back to you tomorrow, have to hit the hay. Thanks so much for the info so far.

You're quite welcome.

Honestly, I've liked them at any position I place them. The general consensus is about 9" and I think even Cambridge suggests that. I think with a high powered amp you won't need to worry about boominess according to some reviews on the "Almost Got Floored by the S30" thread.

Ok ,thanks. I may try to find some stands over the weekend. Thanks for taking the time for some suggestions and sharing your experiences and your setup. That's what makes these forums fun. Have a great day. I'll get back to you when I get something permanent in place. Tom

I have this TV stand: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/logan-large-tv-stand/?pkey=cmedia&cm_src=media||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_-&group=1&sku=3890530

I was thinking of putting the S30's one on each end of the stand? TV is wall mounted.

Make sure you place them to the front edge of the stands - for the best sound.

My main concern was the height. The stand is 22.5 high. It may not be optimal height but as long as they are toward the front it should be good?

I would prefer the tweeter as close to ear level as possible when sitting down - just do
the best you can.
