Hi all!

I just got a pair of JBL L890s and when I unpacked them, I found that one of the domes was a bit crushed.

I might be able to unscrew it and pop it out, but that might risk the warranty, and it might not sound like it should. Opinions?
I got it from Amazon so I'm sure they'll replace it, but it's a pain to transport these monsters.

Thanks!

at least notify Amazon of the damage to establish your claim. Definitely keep all the shipping material. Let Amazon propose a solution before making a decision yourself.

Contact Amazon and they will have UPS come to your house and pick up the return. Once you tell them it's defective they will send you out a replacement immediatley. Even before they get the damaged speaker back.

Return it with a UPS pickup. Can you fix it? Yes. Is it worth the effort if you can get the item picked up with no cost and a correct one with no charge. I say send it back.

put your vaccum over the tweeter and try to get an air tight seal, it could pop it right back into place. I've done it quite a few times and works great.

Notify Amazon and request RMA. They should send you a replacement. Never deal with repair when item arrived damaged in shipment.

Since the reason for return is the product is damaged upon arrival, Amazon will send UPS to your door at no cost, they will also replace it for free.

Is there really a reason to have to ship it back? No. But amazon will have a free UPS pickup and ship the replacement before they even get the item back.

I just feel like OP should get what was paid for, which is a working undamaged product. Just my opinion though and I know some prefer to simply replace or repair the item rather than package it for pickup.

Yeah... well this OP doesn't want to take his system apart and lug that huge box out of his apartment...
I contacted JBL and they will ship the replacement component for free. Looks like a really easy fix.

Why this speaker? Well, I had a hard time finding a top-notch center channel that would fit in my entertainment area, and the JBL LC2 was the only fix I could find because it is flat and I wouldn't have to get a whole new entertainment center to fit it. Once you have a great experience with something in a set, you tend to want to complete that set. Plus they say stuff about matched speakers...

Anyway, these speakers list price is like $700 or $800, and Amazon has them sometimes for $400, sometimes for $600. They recently dove from 600 to 400 so I bit. That's about as much as I'm willing to pay for speakers at this point and I feel like I got a good value.

Oh!! ok I'm just asking by curiosity.

I apologize about saying that there better speakers out there at that price, I don't really know how they sound so I cant judge ,I'm used to the same speakers recommendations all the time here.

You made the right decision getting the replacement part.

Finally, one smart, knowledgable reply.

Yes, or a drinking straw. Looks minimal and does zero harm to the dome. IF you're unable to accomplish such, then send back.

Amazon will send you an advance replacement and pay for return shipping (Amazon direct, not a vendor). If the vacuum trick doesn't work, notify Amazon right away.
