I need opinions on the following:

Considering the Klipsch Reference RS41 bookshelf and surround speakers as an upgrade to my 5.1 system.
Thinking of the bookshelfs for fronts and the surrounds for the sides.

Here is my question:
Is there any signifigant downside to just using the surrounds all around instead of bookshelfs for the fronts? They have the same specs as far as power and sensitivity and are the same price. I like the look of the surrounds better. The bookshelfs have a port on the rear and since they will be wall mounted I am wondering how that may effect sound (although they have keyholes on the back so I think Klipsch would say its ok).

I am considering other brands as well, but would like to keep this discussion limited to these 2 speakers. smile.gif

You do not want to use the RS-41 as Front speakers because of their design to disperse sound instead of it coming straight towards you which is what you want in your Front soundstage.

Yes, that was a concern also. Still wondering about blocking the port on the back of the bookshelfs though.

You definitely wouldn't want to do that and need some space behind it..That said, you could step up the RB-61 which is front ported: http://www.klipsch.com/rb-61-ii-bookshelf-speakers-pair

Regardless, you don't want to use the RS line as Front speakers.
