I've been searching for days to try and determine what setup to use for the theater room. I know that a 1k budget isnt much, but i got to imagine whatever i buy today will sound better than the stuff from the early '00s.

Originally i was thinking something like this:
Yamaha RX-V673 receiver - 399.95
BIC America DV-62CLRS - center
BIC America DV62si - left /rgiht
BIC AMERICA DV-32B - surrounds
BIC F12 -sub

That puts me at about 1k.

Other options i was debating was HTIB setups like

Onkyo HT-S9400THX - 799.00
Onkyo HT-S5500 - 350.00

Jamo S 426 HCS 3 WENGE - 199.99
BIC F12 -sub
Yamaha RX-V673 receiver - 399.95

Yamaha RX-V673 receiver - 399.95
Onkyo SKS-HT870 7.1 speakers
total - 848.95

Any help would be appreciated.

It will be tough to get an appropriate sub, receiver, and speakers for $1000.

I would go with the Denon AVR-1913, you can get a refurb for $299 at www.accessories4less.com and it has a better room EQ and saves you some money.

For a sub, I would go with the BIC PL-200. It is a good performer, and you can probably get it for $270 with the "make an offer" feature at www.acousticsounddesign.com

With the last bit of your budget, I would go for some speakers that are high efficiency so you will get good dynamics for movies and won't need discrete amplification. The BIC Formula FH6-LCR is a good choice. They are horn-loaded and have a high sensitivity, and offer a of value. Three identical speakers in the front is the most ideal setup, and you can grab all three for $300.

The last $100 can go towards a pair of bookshelves for surrounds, I would probably just do 5.1 for the time being, and then add another pair for 7.1 later on. You could go with the BIC DV62i's here, or the Pioneer BS22. They don't need to match the fronts, so most anything will work fine.

honestly, im just getting tired of trying to decide on this crap. I know everyone will tell you that HTIB will sound worse, but im no audiophile thats for sure. Im thinking of just getting Onkyo HT-S9400THX.

Today i could grab a BIC Acoustech PL-76 pair for 279, which i debated. The problem is, i dont think i have much headroom for rear speakers. I dont know if having smaller satellite speakers with towers are going to cause an issue? I could pair any surround with these speakers, i would maybe buy them since they are on the cheap.

That is a great deal on those, I think you would like them, and it would be much much better than any HTIB. Surround speakers only play limited content, and you would be fine with using satellites for this purpose. Matching does not matter all that much either, your front three and sub are what play the majority of movie content.

You could probably get a deal on that site if you buy a the PL-200 sub, fronts, and center together.

Just called there. I can grab the PL-72 with the PL-26 center for 429 out the door. To keep some costs down, i would pair this with the F-12 woofer i guess and maybe a t Yamaha RX-V375 for 249.95 or the Sony STR-DH740 for 298???

FYI, this is to be paired with epson 5020 projector.

@dbldown - The 9400THX system is a great HTIB but I guarantee you that the BIC Acoustech Platinum Series or BIC America Formula Series will crush the 9400THX. I think a great system for you would be a pair of PL-76 towers and the PL-26 center and a PL-200 sub and if in-wall speakers are an option get the FH-6W in-wall speakers. They are very close to a perfect match to the other speakers. Or as already mentioned 3 FH6-LCR's with a PL-200 sub would be a great front sound stage on a budget. Again you could add the FH-6W in-wall speakers for the rear and they are the match for those front speakers.

BTW I have 2 - PL-89s, 1 - PL-28, 4 - PL-66s I bought all 7 speakers a year and a half ago from acousticsounddesign.com for $989 shipped. So I know if you buy all BIC stuff from them you will get a killer price as well.

dbldown - I would highly recommend either Onkyo or Denon Receivers that have Audyssey Auto Room EQ. Trust me Audyssey makes a huge difference. accessories4less.com has refurbished units one of which I own (Onkyo 808). The Onkyo 616 is $300 and the 717 is $460. And if you can afford it go for the PL-200 sub over the F-12.

Trust me if you have a projector you don't want to skimp on good sound.

I always liked onkyo, however lately sounds like they have a bad rap on their hdmi boards. I can't say i feel comfortable buying a refurbished unit from the site you mentioned. It seems like that site has been given a lot of references from these forums lately. I wouldn't mind buying a denon receiver. My only thoughts specifically were to maybe have a 7.2 receiver so that if i decide to go with 4 satellite speakers i can. In addition, i thought if it was a 4k receiver, then i would at least be somewhat future proof - although just buying the epson for this room doesnt seem like i will be upgrading anytime soon.

As i stated, for the rear speakers are going to be in the soffit (you can see in my build thread in my sig), i wont have a lot of headroom, so i cannot use speakers that are like 10" tall or anything.

Ok I just looked at your build thread. Very very nice, I'm jealous.

Something to think about. If you went to all that trouble and have this room looking as good as it does PLEASE don't go cheap on the audio! If money is tight right now just start with a 3.1 system.

If I were you the minimum I would buy for that room would be: 2 - PL-76s, 1 - PL-26, and (if you can fit them which I think you have options) 4 - PL-66s and 2 Rythmik LV-12R subwoofers. Now I know that's a lot more than what you planned on spending. But why have a nice awesome room like that with a big projector screen and then get crappy sound system? I already said what speakers I have and I also have 2 - Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus subs and that is in my everyday used livingroom.

My theory buy once the right things NOT buy twice (first time wront then second time right) because buying the right stuff now trust me will save you money in the long run.

I would try and get the 1613 for a couple reasons. It has Audyssey MultEQ which helps a lot with configuring your speakers, the 1513 does not have Audyssey. Also, the 1613 has a network port so you can stream to it, control it via smartphone/tablet, and keep the firmware updated. The 1713 has a better version of Audyssey, but it's not a huge leap from the 1613, which is the sweet spot budget receiver in my opinion.

Denon 1613 has a better version of Audyssey than the Onkyo 616. The Onkyo has more connectivity options though with more analog inputs and video conversion and scaling.

Depends what devices you're connecting to the receiver and how you plan to use it. I own the 1613 and it does all I need.
