If anyone wants to get these:

http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/core/view_BigProduct.cfm?sdtid=6284770&pid=1538&sc=32

Apply Code = bictower

I was just thinking if these could be used as surrounds or bipole/dipole might be better, any thoughts ?

Thanks

This certainly sounds like an advertisement.

Perhaps you should place an ad in the classified section.

What I can say is that surround speakers are recommended to be placed a couple feet above listening height. I don't think using towers for surrounds is a good idea. Monopole vs bipole vs dipole is a whole 'nother story rolleyes.gif

you can check out this sticky for a good discussion of types of surrounds and what's good in what situations

Lots of people use towers as surrounds. Nothing at all wrong with it but it depends on your specific situation.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger, but in a 5.1/7.1 setup, i dont know if i could put bookshelf speakers in the rear. Would smaller speakers work with such big towers? If i were to mount bookshelves to the ceiling, people could hit their heads walking by.

I just got a pair for $299 with free shipping at Overstock.com. I thought that was a screaming deal. They sound great with my PL-200 sub and PL-28II center. Space was an issue that kept me from getting the PL-89s. I'm very happy and if I ever get a bigger place they would make great surrounds. If you only are going to run just two speakers they will not give you the thump you might need, but they are great in a 5.1 system like mine. And they are plenty loud.

By the way, thanks guys for turning me on to these speakers. I started with the sub and have been adding on since then. I have a 55watt Onkyo that I thought I would have to upgrade for home theater, but with my new BICs in my smallish room, I have more than enough power. The PL-76 are not as good as the center channel, but leagues better than the early 90s Bose Acoustimass they replaced.

A new AVR would be a great upgrade for you, not for the power, but for the room calibration software. I am not sure which Onkyo you have, but it sounds like an older model and may not have Audyssey. The EQ software will set all the levels for your speakers, calibrate your sub, set crossovers, and attempt to adjust your speakers to flatten the frequency response. It really can make a huge difference in sound quality and it is something I think you would benefit from.

Yes. Mine is a pre-HDMI 5.1. Audyssey would be a nice upgrade. Although, it is sounding pretty darn good right now.

Still working on speaker placement, so don't bust on me too hard.

Glad you are enjoying them, I was very cose to buying an Acoustech set myself. I would pull those fronts up flush with the TV stand, you are likely getting some reflections from the side of the TV stand. Moving to a new receiver would not only give you Audyssey EQ, but HDMI will allow you to enjoy the higher quality audio on Blu Rays like Dolby MA.

And what a coincidence! I have that EXACT same TV stand! Where did you get yours?
