All three of the above speakers I can get for pretty much the same price give or take a few dollars. Around $330. The JBLs originally sold for over $600.

Difference in price between original MSRP and what you are paying for them is not a useful factor in picking out speakers. Many speakers aren't a good deal until you ARE paying half off.

I can't speak for the others, but I own the Ascends. Ascend is an Internet direct retailer, and thus does not have the huge markup that many other speakers may have. The CBM-170 SEs are excellent speakers for the money.

I've read some glowing reviews for 170's and then I've read some negetive reviews for them.

I think I've narrowed it down to the 170's or the Diamonds.

Agreed.

Plus, I think that any negative reviews of either the Diamond 10.1s or the CBM-170 SEs would be coming from either inexperienced users or fanboys trying to promote the speaker they have fallen in love with.

The overwhelming consensus on AVS seems to be that either of these speakers are excellent performers in their price class. Whether you will like one or the other better is going to be based mostly on your personal listening tastes. (I don't know enough about the JBLs to say the same thing). Other speakers like this in the same class are HSU HB-1s and ARX A1bs. All would be a good choice; one will undoubtedly be better for you if you have a chance to listen to them smile.gif

I was looking at the ARX's. What are the advantages of a ribbon tweeter?
