Currently running a 7.1 setup and only have two floorstanding speakers as my fronts and bookshelf speakers as my side and rear's. I plan on upgrading only the two fronts to a better set of floorstanding speakers and i want to move the current ones either to the side or rear wich are better than my bookshelfs i am using now as my side and rear speakers. So my question is would it be better to use my floorstanding speakers as my side speakers or my rears in my 7.1 setup ? they are better than the bookshelfs i am using now .

An argument for using them as the sides is that the sound coming from the woofers would be blocked by furniture if you put them in the rear. Of course, if your receiver includes room EQ software, it'd compensate for that reasonably well.

I have some polk and sonys , they are mismatched in the front so id like to grab a matching set for fronts and center and move my two sonyfloorstanding speakers to the rear or side , they are not the best speakers out there but they sound nice for what i paid for them and ill grab a even better set for the front and center soon.

As mentioned above, I put my RF-82 towers in the side positions because I did not want them to be blocked my the couch. Could not be happier having them moved there. Made a massive difference in sound over the smaller speakers that were there.

RC-64 Center, RF-7 Fronts, RF-82 Sides, RW-12D, QTY=2, RSW-15, RS-52ii Rears, Pioneer SC-1522-K, Panasonic 65VT60, 65"
