Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 5.1 sound system for my dedicated home theatre room. The room is 6 x 3 meters. I'm mostly going to be using this room for movies and gaming. I'm looking to pay around $1000 and needed some advice.

Should I buy a package with a Blu-Ray player or buy the speakers and the Blu-Ray and an AV reciever all separately? Which would give me the best sound quality while also being cost effective?

Also, what are your recommendations for this setup? What kind of devices should I look into? I'm not keen on getting the perfect sound but I do hope to get the best for the money.

Thanks.

Probably best option would be Pioneer SP-PK52FS 5.1 Speaker and
a receiver all in your budget they are $549.99 from Pioneer direct.

Very good reviews Andrew Jones design !
another ~$300.00 for receiver and you are done with some change for cables
or maybe this one Pioneer SP PK 5222BS $450.00

Some HT speaker options below if you want to go BIG in there.
Polks are more money though .

You can get some decent refurbed AVR's at accessories for less in the $300.00- $450.00 range also.

Probably 0ption 2 without second addt'l sub in option 3 would be best in that size room for big option

You could also get with an HTIB or smaller speakers like the Energy take 5
and a ~$300.00 receiver.
Check out these treads lots of reciever and speaker options we just covered
that extensively for smaller rooms

Hi,

Thanks so much for your help so far. I was thinking of getting a Denon AVR-X1000 as my receiver. Do you think this is a good one to go for? Is there something that can do the job better for a better price? Again thanks for all your help.

One should usually select speakers first then you will better know what is required of your receiver !

I'm in Australia. I've been looking for the Pioneer speakers the other poster mentioned but I don't think they sell them here. Still looking.

Hi guys,

Just an update. I was at a Hi-Fi store today and was recommended the following packages: the Yamaha YHT-799AU and the YHT-699AU. Both include the same set of speakers, Yamaha's HT series apparently. They only vary with the different receivers. I'm not really curious about the receivers but do you know if the speakers are any good? I know that you've recommended me the Pioneer set tubetwister but unfortunately I can't seem to find any seller who delivers to my region.

Here are the links to the Yamahas' specs:
