Another request - but I thought I'd try to write a good brief possible for y'all. Looking for bookshelves to complete the 2 bit of a 2.1 setup. I think my room size is too small for anything more than 2.1 - I got my sub on a deal, I'm aware is completely overkill, plan being to keep it for when I have a bigger space room - just balance it low for this set up now.

What: Bookshelves for a 2.1 setup.

Receiver: ONKYO SR603 (125.0 Watt - 6.0 Ohm)

Sub: Velodyne 12"Subwoofer

Room size: Small (4mx5m) - but it does open into other rooms of similar size either side through double sized doorways and a 2mx2m opening in one wall.

Use/Input: Music (CD, FLAC, and lossy digital format), Movies (BluRay)/TV/digital video files with 5.1 (but for the moment I'm happy with 2.1 speak config in a room that size)

Sound Preference: No real preference - though probably a warmer sound is more suited for what I'm doing.

Where do I live: Sydney, Australia

Budget: $AUD 500 but I'm willing to go up a few more hundred. (consider the US dollar to AUS 1:1 for the purposes of the brief) - also happy to go second hand.

Preference brands: none really, though I did listen to some Peachtree Design 5's last week in a store in Stockholm last week, and I was impressed.

Mandatories: none really - though I'd have a preference for something I don't have to order, as I'd like to walk into a store this weekend and buy something. With that said, it's not a deal breaker - I'm just keen to sort it out asap. Other comments: I'm open to suggestions - even replacing the receiver if you think I should get rid of it.

The bad news is that that you appear to be from Australia. Never been there but I hear it has nice places and wonderful people.

I did some searching on the web to see what brands of audio speakers are sold there, and its like leaving my comfortable universe and going someplace else.

I did find a site that sold Def Tech, a name I love to disrespect but I decided to play along. Def Tech Studio 45s can be found here:

http://www.audioconnection.com.au/store/speakers/bookshelf/def-tech-studiomonitor-45-pair-detail

Then I looked at the price - $745 a pair. Here in the states SRP is under $400 a pair and discounts are available.

I have a rough idea of what the Au$ versus US$ exchange is like and its pretty good these days compared to what it was a few years back - for you guys! :-(

You're asking me to play well outside my little comfortable world. And its a world that does not have a lot of representation around here, so its mostly just for you.

Get my drift? Lurk and see if you can state your questions in a way that we can easily understand.

Thanks all - I think given the prices we pay here in australia - my best & safest best is probably the Usher s520's - price is very comparable here.

Lots of stuff is from companies in the UK or Europe, and made in Asia, so you should be able to find something.

There's a global oversupply of speakers, so there's always something on sale. Shop around.

You'd do better to find a forum there, it depends so much on the choices

Focal, eg:
http://www.stereophonic.com.au/brands/Focal-JM-Lab.html

Lots of discussion of the Cambridge Audio S30 in this forum
http://www.stereophonic.com.au/cambridge-audio-s30-bookshelf-speakers/

Dynaudio, Mordant Short Aviano
http://www.stereophonic.com.au/categories/Shop-Loud-Speakers/Book-Shelf-Loud-Speakers/

http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/?q=node/view/747

B&W
http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/products/speakers/main/686

Monitor Audio
http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/?q=node/view/1228

Here's your Peachtree D5, there's also a D6
http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/products/speakers/main/d4

Google for reviews of the stuff in your price range

Speakers are the place to spend your money - what really determines the sound.
