Hi, I just purchased the TEAC H01.3-B Digital Streaming Micro System at Accessories4 Less for a very good price. The specs and DAC that come with it sounded extremely good especially for the system's price of $429. Although it comes with Teach's own speakers, I am looking for good, efficient speakers that would match the amp, which is rated on Teac's website with the following specs:

Output Power: 50W + 50W (4 ohms, 20 – 40,000 Hz, 1% THD) 22W + 22W (8 ohms, 20 – 40,000Hz, 1% THD)

Would this amp be powerful enough to drive Kef LS50's, or the Kef R100's? What other speakers would sound good with this setup? I will use this in an office environment exclusively for music.

Thanks.

I take it in an office environment you aren't going to get very loud, right? Pretty much most speakers will be fine I would think but if you want to push to very loud levels then a higher sensitivity rating would be a good thing with that amp.....what are the sensitivity specs for those speakers?

ps I somewhat doubt that amp is really capable of much at 4ohm, though...

What impedance? (yes, I'm too lazy to look it up) smile.gif How loud do you want to listen?

So at 1w/1m you're going to get 85/86 dB, 2w 88/89, 4w 91/92, 8w 94/95, 16w 97/98, 32w 100/101...do you need more spl than that? Unless you work at home hard to imagine needing more...

For a office, almost any good speaker should work -
audition and find the sound you like.

What have you listened to, or owned in the past - what type of sound do you like?
Also how big is your office, and how far will you sit from the speakers?

I will sit around ten feet from the speakers if all goes as planned. This is my first two channel setup. Thanks.

Along with KEF

Take a look at Focal - good closeout pricing

The amp module in that Teac integrated - ICEpower 50ASX2 - is deceptively powerful, IMO. For a time I drove KEF Q100's with it and could fill the next room over. It'll be fine with R100's or LS50's. (I sold the Teac amp because the remote stupidly does not have an on/off button.)

Not in the same league.

Thank you for the replies. Are you sure this amp could drive LS50's? I was told I needed at least 75 watts per channel to even begin to drive this speaker adequately.

Yes. In the material and relevant aspects to that question (speaker efficiency, impedance curve) the Q100 and LS50 do not materially differ, and that Icepower module is fine to drive the Q100s. Especially in an office.
