I am by no means an audiophile. Hell $3 earbuds sound just fine to me. BUT I have never had a decent set of speakers from a Plasma yet and when you turn up the volume for movies the sound is terrible. I just bought a Panasonic TC-50P64 from Costco and it's a little small on the wall So I wanted to fill some space with some FLAT speakers.

I have a Denon AVR-589 so I would use that to power the speakers. I only have a Bluray player and the FIOS box so it would work perfect.

Should I go with a decent soundbar or is there anything decent that is flat that would work ?

I would LOVE to stay under $400 if possible (less would be much appreciated).

Any recommendations?

A SUB is not included in that budget (and not sure I would get one as there is really NOWHERE to put one).

Thanks

Hi Ryan

These are probably pretty decent for your budget: Boston Acoustics Bravo 20

If you can stretch the budget a bit, these would be a step up: Definitive Tech Mythos Gem

In either case, a sub is highly is highly desirable. This is my usual recommendation for a high value, compact sub: SVS SB-1000

Thanks for the links guys. These are all roughly 3"+ off the wall. I guess I am wondering if they make a more flat against the wall speaker than that...

Also the Boston is the only one I really liked because it was longer. and sleek. I would love it if it took up most of the length of the sides of the Plasma. Does that make sense?

Something like the Martin and Logan Slim speakers (without the price attached smile.gif )

Anything like that out there?

From what little I could find on the T301's they are suppose to be a great low profile speaker.

Geigar: Those are perfect. A little out of budget, but man they look like they are awesome..

I doubt I can swing the 301 version but they have a smaller version that is another $200 cheaper.

Thanks for the find.

ANY OTHER ones out there?

thanks

Yep! Just happened to be on the EMPTek site and noticed these for the first time: http://emptek.com/onwall.php

Prices are very reasonable... EMPTek generally offers speakers that reportedly compete well with speakers several times the price.

These are not terribly shallow however, being almost 6" deep. Looks like if thin is your thing, you've gotta pay for it. biggrin.gif

Looks like you might be right.. Sad.. I just love the look of them.

I guess I need to figure out how far off the wall my TV is going to sit too. Cause if it's 6" then maybe a 6" speaker hanging off the wall won't look so bad. I sure do like the FLAT KEF ones though. They look sweet.

Anyone else see anything out there?

Although they are not cheap, I want to throw the Monitor Audio Shadow series out there for anyone looking for flat speakers. The satellites have a mounting bracket incorporated in the cabinet, but they can also be mounted on a stand. Finished in black, brushed aluminium they sure look the part.

How about the Polk OWM series. They come in two different sizes and can be mounted in a variety of ways. Should be better than the plasma speakers.

I found these. They are quite unique.. (just in case other people are looking for something)

http://www.artisonusa.com/loudspeakers/lcrdm-mk2-series/sketch--%28s-lcrdm-mk2%29/

They make it so the center channel is built in to each speaker and they sit directly on each side of the TV. They can also do custom enclosures for your specific TV if necessary. The Low end pair is roughly $1300, The next step up is roughly $2000 and the high end pair is roughly $3000. Going to look at them today.
They apparently (artison) make an IN Wall sub that is anti vibrate (his term). It's the only speaker on the market that doesn't shake the wall (again his wording, but how is that possible I have no idea).

The monitor Audio ones LOOK nice too...
