I am putting a home theater in a basement. I will be powering it with an older Denon 1800 for now. All my speakers will be wall mounted or on a shelf. The room will be about 15'X20'. I was looking at the Polk RTi A3, Def Tech SM450, and Energy CB-20. I would be building the system around these speakers with matching center and surrounds. I currently do have an older Def Tech 15" sub. Dose any one have input or thoughts on these speakers? I am trying to stay around $300 for the pair of fronts.

we had th sm350s for around 10 years and really liked the system the sm450s is its bigger brother and will sound great also.the matching center fo the 450s is the clr 2000 if you can still find them.have not heard your other two choices.

My brother in-law also has the SM350s and I am pretty impressed. I was just worried the center could be hard to find and that they are a dated speaker being released in the 90s.

Not a bad idea, I might even be able to lay it on its side, with the passive radiator facing up. Now if I could only buy one as they are sold in pairs...

I was able to get the clr2002 center about 3 months ago and for 249.00 shipped from an amazon linked distributor! Great center speaker....but the idea of buying an additional pair of sm450 was my back up plan!

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

I think bookshelf speakers are too small for the room size, you are not going to have a good cinematic experience with these. Go for floorstanding fronts and up your budget a little, or see if you can get good deals around year end.

I have the SM450 and CLR2002, along with two SLS surrounds and a Klipsch RW12D sub in a room that size and I can say with certainty, the speaker can produce a cinematic experience in the right room of that size!

CLR2002 is easy to find from this vendor. Don't know your price range though.

Why would the size of the speaker limit my surround sound experiance? Would they just not play loud enought?

I am currently selling pair of KSF 10.5 Klispch towers (two 8" woofers) to free up floor space.

Not too bad, but it cost almost as much as a pair of SM450s.

Has anyone had any experience with KEF C3 speakers for HT?

I would like to spend $500-$750 on the 5 speakers, I already have a big old 15" Def Tech sub.
