Hello,

I recently purchased a pair of Cambridge S30's to replace Energy CB-5's and I've had a Boston CS-225c as a center channel speaker. After Cambridge S30's arrived last week, I disabled the Boston from my receiver and tried to listen to the sound coming out of only the S30's (My subwoofer died months ago). S30's sound fine but definitely lack bass so I ordered a replacement subwoofer BIC PL-200 which arrived yesterday.

I'm wondering if 2.1 (S30's+PL-200) or 3.1 (adding Boston center channel) would be a better setup. Harmon Kardon AVR254 is powering the speakers and my usage is 80% movie/TV programs and 20% music.

Anything is worth a try but mixing front l and r with a different brand, series, speaker is normally a no/no in HT, you want matching timbre in your front 3..  I would imagine phantom center is better than mismatched, but you have them there, give it a try see what you think, sound is either good {to you} or not...

I would agree about timbre matching the front three.

The matching center for the Cambridge speakers can be had for $150.
