Hello.

I have been doing quite a bit of research on outdoor speakers, and have pretty much narrowed it down to the Niles OS-10 or Speakercraft WS-510's.

The Niles have been getting great recommendations here on the forum, and the independent reviews against other outdoor speakers are very good.

However, I think that I am finding more recommendations for the Niles because more people seem to own them - possibly due to their greater availability on the market.

However, I have personally heard the Speakercraft, and can pick up a pair of WS-510's on clearance for $230.00 (reg. $330). They sound very good, and there is a lifetime warranty on them.

I can find no reviews that compare these two speakers side-by-side. Everyone on this forum raves about Speakercraft, but that is typically for their in-wall speakers, and not outdoor specifically.

Any opinions?

At the very least, does anyone own the Speakercraft that can give me their opinion?

Thanks so much!

Paul

I bought my Dad a pair of Weathercrafts...I was so happy with them that I bought myself the top of the line ones.

We also have a pair of Speakercrafts mounted in the ceiling of our kitchen...they're good, not kick-ass.

So...

Are you saying that the outdoor speakers are "good, not kick-ass" as well?

Paul,
I am sorry for throwing a wrench into this thread but have you listened to the JBL N-26AW speakers? I have listened to them side by side with the Niles OS-10 and have found them to be better sounding, IMO. Also, they cost much, much less than the Niles speakers.

As for the speakercrafts, I have never heard them.

No, I have not previously considered them, but I certainly will now.

Yes, the price is much better, but they do not seem to include mounting brackets, which cost $50.00 more. This brings the price up quite a bit, however they are still less expensive than the others.

Klipsch makes an sa-3 with an 8" woofer that looks like it is worth considering, and Niles makes an os-20 and os-25 with larger woofers as well - same size woofer, and I don't understand the difference between these two models.

I hate to beat this to death, but I do want to make the right decision since I am going be using these for years to come.

Anyone know of the Klipsch or Niles?

THANKS!

Paul

I would look into speakers from NEAR. I purchased a pair of A6's last summer and they sound great. If you are interested I could tell you where to get them at around $200 a pair

Yes, I would love to know where to get them.

Anything more that I can consider would be helpful.

My wife will be thrilled to know that after a month of studying this and narrowing it down to two brands, that now two more have been thrown into the mix for consideration!
