I miss my high end speakers back home so I am looking to get some later this year for my dorm room.

I enjoy classical music and jazz. I have an apogee duet to output. So I can use balanced and line level.

My room is small and my desk is even smaller. They need to sit on my desk because that is where my monitor is . Hard limit of 6 inches wide per speaker.

I can do a sub though, size not an issue on the floor under stuff.

I would like to have some speakers in mind at a few price points, then listen to them somewhere when I get back home to the Chicago area.

Around $300
Around $600
Around $900

For all speakers (including sub if recommended) Not including amp, so if the speakers are active the speaker budget goes up a bit.

The Emotiva Airmotiv 4 are 6.1" and very well liked. Pair them with an SVS SB-1000 and you have a fantastic 2.1 system for music.

6" wide isn't very big.

These NHT SuperZero 2.1 speakers are only 5.5" wide and cost $99 each.

If you want powered speakers they make SuperPower 2.1 for $199 each.

I think I'd rather have the first set and add a $200 receiver since it'll give you more flexibility.

First off never listen to audiophiles. They are like crackheads chasing the dragon after the first hit.-anonymous hater

Totem Mites are 6" wide. Probably run about $700/pr depending on dealers. Best little speaker I've ever heard for music.

This and the SVS PB-1000 would be a great setup for a dorm room smile.gif
