What you guys think? Its a bit of money since I would go with the raal and I'm mostly movies/TV so far I love my Sierra-1s with the NrT tweeter and really wonder if it gets much better with the towers? Given my location I can't hear before I buy and since shipping to Canada and taxes are a bit if I buy it its likely staying. I'm told its more detail and better midrange but what am I missing with the Sierra-1s for detail or midrange? For me to add the Towers and the center it would be just over $4000 before taxes and shipping and that's a bit of money so any thoughts on this? What am I missing with the Sierra-1s that the towers will give me?

This is my current setup

LCR - Sierra-1s NrT
Rears - HTM-200 se
Sub - SVS PB1000
Anthem MRX 300

I dig my setup and it sound amazing but will the towers be worth it for mostly home theater use.

How long have you had the Sierra 1s? I dunno... if Ascend still allows for trade up from within a year of purchase maybe contact them and find out. Honestly...if I had to spend that kind of money I would likely not switched. Yeah...the Towers...are an upgrade because of the dedicated midrange, more efficient & the tacical feel of the bass response...any other improvements are less subtle. I bought the standard STC and later upgraded to the RAAL...again the improvents were subtle but noticable especially with dialogue.

So...what do you feel lack in the Sierra 1's that you're looking to upgrade your speakers. I basically switched because I prefer Towers over BS on stands and feel they suited my needs better...properly EQed with my sub they put a even bigger smile on my face than the Sierra 1's....YMMV...as others might point out.

Ps: Nice set up BTW...the MRX 300 is a very nice unit and I like your surrounds too...smile.gif

Ascend Acoustics Towers,STC(RAAL) & 200 SE in espresso54" of Panny BlissAnthem MRX 300,Sony BDP-S380, Technics CD player & Apple TV....

How big is your room? Dimensions?
How far from your speakers do you sit?
How loud do you listen?

If you have upgradeitis, you might consider getting a second SVS subwoofer instead of the towers.
Having more than one sub will help smooth out the bass response in your room.

For every new thing I learn, I forget two things I used to know.

That's the thing I don't feel the Sierra-1s lack at all, they're better than I thought they would be. I bought them last January and I think curiosity is weighing in and wondering how much better it will sound and if I'm missing anything? Is it mainly weight and vocals that are the difference? If you rate the Sierra Towers as a 10 what would you score the Seirra-1s? And what does the towers bring that the Sierra-1 isn't? Do the towers bring more dimension?

Yeah, I love the Anthem MRX 300!! ARC is great and kinda jealous your HTM-200 match your towers and center, I might have to do this later how much extra did that cost?

Not sure yet for room dimension as I might move from my house to a condo, I listen to movies between 80-90 dbs. This PB-1000 sub is kind of a short term sub cause I'm thinking of having a custom built entertainment stand to hold my gear and build two Rythimik sub in it, I would like to hide the subs and keep it a clean stealthy look.

In that case I'd say to hold off and not upgrade to the towers - and I say that as somebody who also owns the Sierra 1's and drools over the towers.
I would expect the towers to give better mid and upper-bass (just above where your subs operate), and a little cleaner midrange. But I think with one or more
good subs, those improvements would be subtle. So wait until your living arrangements are more set, and then think it over again at that time.
