I've heard definitive owners saying that most of the speakers timbre match very well. I'm going to pair mine with an older mythos 8 lcr. I'll post how it matches. I'd just make sure all the drivers are the same size. Which is why I got the 350

There is no guarantee based on some of there speakers that I have owned - however, it may
work out fine for you.

Any of these going to give me a night and day difference

The P163 and BS22 would be good choices, I am not a fan of the Polk Monitors as much, and Klipsch are too bright for me.

Another option is HTD. You could get the Level Three Bookshelves and Center for $500, and then upgrade the sub down the road. Arx also makes fantastic speakers and a pair of the A1b and A2rx-c would be great. HSU is also good, and a pair of the HB-1 and HC-1 would be another solid choice.

I know the price of the CLR 2002 bothers some (more than a pair of SMs)...but that speaker has dual 5" 1/4 drivers and really put out some quality sound. it really has the drivers of two SM350s (only one tweeter, of course).

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

So i set up my new Studio Monitor 350's a few hours ago. They are obviously not broken in. however they do sound really nice. i have listened to some jazz, classical, and watched an episode of Band of Brothers. it is all very clean. They have good mid bass, and the highs are not harsh. They sound better than my mythos 8 center already. i have them crossed over at 80hz. But im sure they will more once they are broken in. Since the 8 is already. I would definitely recommend these. However since i bought them they have doubled in price. So i would recommend the 450 from newegg instead for now because they have bigger drivers and are $200 less

So, you are saying that the 350's sound really nice, and very clean, with good midbass, and no harsh highs, plus better
than the mythos 8 - and you still feel they are not broken in?smile.gif

As long as Newegg still has some decent inventory on the 350, they are more than likely to put them back on sale again.

The P163 often go on sale everywhere for $85 each about every few weeks. You can just get five of them for your 5.1 system.

You can also get the P163 open-box from the Amazon Warehouse for $84-$89 each now. Or just wait a few weeks for the price to drop from $99 to $85 brand new.

But you really need to listen for yourself. For example, some people say Klipsch sound "bright", while others love Klipsch.

Yes lol I think they're a bit more refined. I don't really know why yet but they do. And my guess why the 350s are back up is because they're were outselling the 450s big time. So they kept the 450s down to sell more.

BIC Acoustech and Formula speakers are pretty comparable to Klipsch. However they are not as harsh sounding because they don't use a compression driver like Klipsch does. Not everyone finds horns harsh, but some do and you should listen to them (Best Buy) before you buy.

The PL-89 can be had for a good price, generally lower than advertised at www.acousticsounddesign.com

Compression drivers aren't inherently harsh. When properly implemented the opposite is the case, as harshness reflects high THD, while a good compression driver/horn combination has much lower THD than other tweeter options. The source of harshness in some Klipsch products would be obvious in an SPL response plus THD chart, but Klipsch doesn't reveal them.
