Hello avsforum,

This is my first thread so if I break any rules I'm sorry.

But let me get on with it.

I'm planing to buy a 2.1 audio system.

The budget I have is about 200-250 euro.

I had something picked out:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/Speakers/Home+Theater+Speakers/SP-BS22-LR

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/Speakers/Subwoofers/SW-8MK2

And maybe a cheap receiver.

But I'm not sure it's a good setup,

So my question is: should I go with these or pick something else?

Also: I already have a high quality sound card, do I still need a receiver for good sound?

Thank you for helping, I'm quite a noob at this

Sincerely,

Arno van Kessel.

EDIT: This system would be in a small room and be used mainly for music and a few movies.

Speakers: http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/speakers/products/xrm61 $250

If you need a receiver for TV/Movies and such:

http://usa.denon.com/us/product/pages/productdetail.aspx?catalog=denonna_us&pcatid=avsolutions(denonna)&catid=avreceivers(denonna)&pid=avre300(denonna) $350

If you are primarily using your 2.1 for primarily music:

Preamp: http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/processors/products/xda2 $300

Amp: http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/upa200 $300

Sub: http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html $329

I know I am quite a bit above your budget! BUT, it would be worth it!

You get what you pay for!

Well, I'm afraid that it is not only above my budget, but also above the amount of money I own...

Also, since I just have a standard consumer audio card, I doubt it will make much use of such a setup.

So sorry, I would love to follow your advice but if it's not under at least 300 euro I can't even consider it.

But thank you very much for your help nonetheless.

Sincerly,

Arno Van Kessel.

Inexpensive bookshelf mains with consistently high reviews.

Pioneer (odd they don't sell a variant there)
Infinity Primus 163
Behringer 2030p

Don't know what to recommend for a sub. Good + inexpensive rarely = globally available there.
You should be able to find a used B&W sub inexpensive on the used market. That's I use on my PC.

I don't think that you can get a receiver, sub and speakers (well, anything decent) for that amount. Do you have electronics re-sale shops? (You are from the Netherlands?) Since I've lived in France for a while, I know a few of the available brands. I would suggest a used Denon receiver and then Wharfdale Diamond or Focal speakers. For that amount, I think you would be better off getting better quality speakers and forgetting about the sub for now.
