So after doing my research on this wonderful forum and thx to great advice from you guys, sitting in my theater room are Sony HW50 projector (I love it and its my first projector) Denon X3000 and a PSA XV15 sub. As you can see I am missing probably the most important equipment of a home theater set up "speakers".

Room is 12' W x 21' L x 8' H and my budget is $2000 for a 7.0 speaker system, 80% movies and 20% music. Need help with speaker recommendation.

Equipment

Sony HW50

Denon X3000 (can upgrade to X4000)

PSA XV15

Samsung Blu-ray player (Oppo 103d coming soon)

Harmony Ultimate remote

Insteon Dimmers

$2K is pushing it for 7 speakers. As I've mentioned many times its much better to build up a MC speaker system over time, than trying to buy everything at once.
Doing only LCRs or 5 speakers for $2k will provide a much better system. You also do not say if you want towers for the mains or all bookshelf or wall mount speakers all around.

I can go $2,5- 3k if I need to, towers preferable but I am open to bookshelf speakers too. What would you recommend for $2k LCR?

you could DIY yourself 5-7 speakers for that budget, which may actually get you the best sound for $ spent. Is that something you would consider?

For towers, there are the JBL Studio L890, 880 & LC2 center. Then add the L820 wall mounts for surrounds or L830 bookshelf

Or JBL Studio 580, 590 towers & 520 center. And matching surrounds.

Depending on where you buy, around $2k or less for LCRs: Harman Audio, Amazon, etc.

Or if you happen to come across them, JBL PT800, PC600. These are no longer produced, but still available from time to time.

Listening distance is 11' and listening preference is as loud as she would allow me to. But if she is not in the room than it's hot smile.gif.

I reckon a 7.0 speaker system based around these is the best you can do for under $2K:

A system comprising E55Ti Towers, E56Ci Centre, E55Wi Surrounds and E5Bi Bookshelves will set you back $1760 shipped.

No, I don't think any one of those is the MOST important. They are all equally important.

I think you should just get 7 bookshelf/monitors since you have the bass covered with the PSA, although another XV15 wouldn't hurt. biggrin.gif

You just need the 7 monitors to play the midrange and treble crystal clear and let the PSA play the bass.

$2K is more than enough IMO for 7 high quality monitors.

Ascend 340/170 monitors 7.0 package would be $1398 shipped.

NHT Absolute Zero on sale for $187 each x 7 = $1309 shipped (30-day risk free).

Well, okay, some money for the stands. biggrin.gif

Many other examples, but $2K is generous enough for 7 quality monitors + stands.

I guess you forgot the important mid-bass. I've been running quality 3-ways for over 30 years with 8" mid-bass drivers.
As such, anytime I hear sat speakers w/o a good mid-bass output I notice it right off. The entire audio just sounds hollow as a result.
One can not have a system that jumps from midrange to sub and sound any good. imo

I second taking a look at these. I heard the towers and was impressed. Also look at Arx with the A5s as mains and then A2 center and 4 of the A1s. About $1600. Also, Home Theater Direct level three speakers. Towers plus a center plus 4 bookshelves is also right at $1600.

Hometheater shack has a review of HTD speakers and the Arx recently was the preferred tower in a $1000 comparison.

All three of those would sound good, from what I have read. Then just get a second XV15 to smooth out the bass and you are set!

I didn't forget anything.

I do own full range towers like Salon2, 802D2, and Orion3 as well as small bookshelf speakers.

They sound great to me (and to many people).

I am sure many people hear a lot of things differently.

High quality bookshelf like Absolute Zero and Ascend can play flat from 100hz-20kHz. The Absolute Zero is +/-0.9dB from 100Hz-10kHz.

The subs can play 20Hz-100Hz just fine.

I have not listened to the Arx speakers. They did very well in that shoot out, but it should be pointed out the direct selling speakers are street price and all of the indirect selling speakers compared in the shoot out were based on MSRP.
