I have a Klipsch soundbar I used in my old theater. Recently bought a bigger house so I am wanting to build a new, bigger theater with real 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. Instead of selling the soundbar, I am debating on hooking it in my living room along with my Bose 5.1 surround sound for "super sound".

I have the Denon AVR-1913 which only has speaker outputs.

Here's my setup:

Denon receiver with the Bose 5.1 surround connected. All my media boxes (ps3, cable box, blue ray) connect to the inputs of the receiver, then the 1 HDMI out from the receiver goes to the tv....Pretty simple. My only dilemma is connecting the soundbar too.

Only way I can think of that will be "safe" is just connect the soundbar to the digital output on the tv which is fine, but would be controlling the volume for the surround speakers and soundbar separately...correct?

I also don't feel it's safe to convert speaker wire to rca since the speaker wire outputs provide amp power. Any suggestions or did I already solve the problem by just connecting it to the tv and dealing with seperate volume controls?

That doesn't seem like a good idea. I would either sell the soundbar or use it in the bedroom. If you sell the soundbar AND the Bose, you will have some money to put toward the real 5.1 system that you really want.

I have the Bose Acoustimass 10 system so that sounds great but the subwoofer could use a little more power along with more punch from speakers which is why I was considering using both.

Bose Acoustimass 10 system will sound adequate if you have a VERY SMALL room, and even then, the speaker has no tweeter, so if is just a blast of high midbass! Very poor speaker design!
And Soundbars as a front stage is problematic, as the drivers in soundbars are usually small and not spaced appropriately. Sounds like that system would be an audio disaster waiting to happen...

And then there are the connection issues....

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

The good news is that Bose products hold their value well, and maybe Klipsch as well...so you might get a decent chunk by selling those to use toward an improved system!

I currently own a dynavox soundbar and have used that in a tv/movie set up...really good soundbar , but absolutely no comparison the either my EMP 5.1 or def tech 5,1 set up!
1. More dynamic front speakers spaced according to my ears!
2. Real subwoofer that can pump a lot of bass (my soundbar has a built in sub, but weak 5 inch)
3, speakers behind you making sounds behind you.
4. The ability to do room eq!

Currently, the soundbar provides music in my garage, backyard and at tailgaters...but I won't use it for movies again. And that is a 400 dollar soundbar!

+1. Soundbars are a major improvement over internal TV speakers, but that's because internal TV speakers by and large are absolute junk. They don't come even close to the sound of a good 5.1 system.

Maybe compared to TV speakers or a soundbar, but that also doesn't come even close to the sound of a good 5.1 system.

I know. But it's not a good 5.1 system.

What is a good 5.1 system? In the box or to buy the speakers seperately? Probably doesn't matter

So called 'Home Theater In a Box' is not much better than the Bose, which is itself HTIB. High quality speakers are sold as separates. You can find package deals on complete speaker systems from various sources, Hsu for instance, but the individual components are also sold separately.
