Ok, the construction on my HT is coming to completion. I'm ready for equipment. Since I'm buying it all I can't afford high end of everything. So I'm trying to pick a projector. My theater is 11'10" W x 17'10" L, but only 6'11" high, 100% light controlled, wired for 7.2 sound, sound proofed. I'm looking for speakers. I don't have a big budget. There are too many choices out there. Are satellite speakers good enough these days? Or should I go with traditional standing or bookshelf speakers with surrounds and rears. Happy to take recommendations. Only have $1000 max to spend on all 8 or 9 speakers. Prefer to spend less as I also need to buy projector and receiver.

Any Black Friday specials folks know about?

See projector and receiver questions here:

You should start by researching a variety of speakers within your price range and then ask for comments and suggestions.

$1000 for 8 or 9 speakers is tough.

check out budget offerings such as the andrew jones pioneers, polk monitor series, and infinity primus line.

I don't need snobs to tell me how to think, thank you!

Craig's List, Used: I've loaded my home with 18 Klipsch speakers, so far, since April, 12 from that source: $1000 for 8-9 speakers is EASY.

There are also some Black Friday deals.

Will I find La Scala, or better, to displace my La Scala fronts, before I displace my kg1, kg2 & kg3 with Heresy or better?

Just a suggestion, but if you're house poor right now, what about emphasizing quality over quantity? A surround system has the gee-whiz factor, but a nice stereo pair will do. $1000 can get you two nice speakers, but not any more than that. Once your coffers are replenished, you can replace or add to the stereo pair, and get yourself to HT heaven.

You get what you pay for.  For professional advice, pay the professional rate.

I've thought of that and looked a little. Which Klipsch are good? Best Buy has a Klipsch on sale for BF but I've heard the ones made for them are not that great. Anybody have thoughts on those? HHGregg also has a Klipsch on sale, some are reasonable others are not.

Worst case I have an older set of sony 5.1 I can use as I build something up. I was hoping somebody might have ideas on a killer deal for BF to take advantage of. I could go a little in the hole if it is worth it.

+1

If you really want the most bang for the buck buy used. If you're patient some good buys can be found on craigslist or audiogon. You'll lose at least 30% of the value of new speakers as soon as you open the box.

Truck0590 to help better we need to know what you listen to: percent HT & Music, also what CL Area are you near, & your age may be of use.

These will be for dedicated home theater. I'm in the Washington DC area. I'm between 40-50 wink.gif.

There are several Klipsch and Polk Audio, but I don't know what is good and what isn't.

Best buy has some Polk Audio bookshelf speakers on sale for $49 and sub for $124

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/home-theater-20131124/category_facet=abcat0200000?qp=category_facet=Audio%20AND%20MP3~abcat0200000&nrp=15&cp=1&seeAll=

Could get all speakers for $500.

Also saw these (sold out at moment) but seemed like a reasonable package deal.

If you are only dropping $1000 on 7 speakers and a sub you do not need the X4000. I would look at the Denon X2000 and Def Tech 600 package at best buy for $1250 plus $250 Gift Card. That is if you must have satellites. You could use that gift card towards the other two satellites in the 7 channel system. I would look at the Energy CF 70s with a CC10 Center and CB 10 or CR 10 surrounds and a sub from Def Tech or Martin Logan such as the Pro Sub 1000 from Def Tech or the Martin Logan Dynamo 500. That is only if you want to buy from a brick and mortar store. If not HTD is a great place to find good speakers on a budget and there are several internet direct companies for subs.

If you are really looking to use a X4000 you need to look at better speakers IMO. That way you get the most return on your investment. Options for speakers are endless...For brick and mortar stores Best Buy has a Def Tech package where if you buy a set of 8060 Towers you get the center and surrounds for FREE. The 8060s are $1000 each however. If you want to buy online I hear you can get a good price on an X4000 from AV sales... and then you can get into better HTD speakers and ID subs. I am sure others will have opinions on which is best for ID speakers. I usually buy brick and mortar equipment because with my discount from work it is cheaper than ID equipment of equal value... I still love looking at ID equipment though.

That package deal from BB now sold out looks good,

BB has several Klipsch speakers, as does HHGregg in Black Friday ads. The are the lower line; but are good speakers, too.

fwiw, I would opt for a lesser avr something like this http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1713/DENON-AVR-1713-5.1ch-Networking-Receiver-w/AirPlay-3D-Ready/1.html and put more money towards your more important part the speakers.i would also start out with a 5.1 system giving you more budget for better quality speakers. just my 2 cents

imo,the problem with the budget series of klipsch speakers is that they are bright sounding compared to other speakers. this usually attracts 1st time buyers .although very dynamic and good sound stage . after listening to music or a movie over a period of time they can become very fatiguing to your ears.just my 2 cents.

I'm a used klipsch craigslist fan as well. Look for the reference series 62 or 82 most likely. The emptek speakers are on Black Friday sale currently. I think 2 towers, the large center, and 2 bookshelves are just a tad over 1k. Like others mentioned could get a more reasonable receiver like a Denon 2113 and use the extra for the sub or such.

Polk Monitor Series sale on Newegg.com has great prices. You can get 7.1 ch around $1K.

Even I am thinking about it since it looks like the better RtiA line never goes on HUGE sales.

I had the Polk RM87 a few years ago, their okay for what they are. But with the Crutchfield deal you would get the $300 PSW 111 free. I had that sub, in a smaller room it will work okay until you can save up and buy something better. But the Polk monitor series would be better that the RM87 IMO.

I agree with Iron Man, save money on the AVR and buy the X2000 and put the savings into the speakers. Speakers and subwoofers are the most important pieces of equipment in your HT in that they have the greatest impact on your SQ. Electronics change every year as technology changes. But speaker lines change much less frequently so we tend to keep our speakers for longer periods, meaning we are usually stuck with them for a while (unless we have money to burn). So I suggest you put as much of your budget into your speakers and subwoofer as you possibly can.

As a final thought I will say the best thing you can do is listen to speakers. I strongly suggest you take some time to demo as many speakers as you can. Speakers are very subjective, arguably the most subjective pieces of equipment that we buy. A speaker I like you might really hate. So you should not go off of anyone's comments, even though it makes the process of buying speakers seem easier. There's no point in you buying speakers for your HT that I like, you need to buy what you like. And the only way to know what you like is to listen.

Question about the Klipsch. Has anyone heard or any of you owners experienced a lack of mid range where vocal tracks in music or movies are subdued or muffled by highs and lows in the RF series?

I've listened to some speakers but haven't had the opportunity to listen to a bunch of different ones in a ''good' environment.

Hey all. Appreciate your help. I ended up piecing a together speakers from Craigslist. I got a lot more than I ever could have afforded new. I think it will be great. A pair of RF-82s (fronts) , pair of RS-42s (side surrounds) , pair of RS-10s (rears), an RC-52 (center) and a RW-10 (sub). All this for $1150. They all seem fairly matched. I don't know if the sub is going to be enough (it was advertised as a RW-12) but it is a great start. And right in my budget.

Thanks again,

Truck
