I am looking at getting a 5.1 system for a 12x13 room. Listener is 8 feet from the tv. Ht use only.

Would you recommend a cs2 center m60 fronts and m30s rears with a psw10 sub.

Would it be better to switch out the m60s for 40s and upgrade the sub? What would you go with?

Is this a bad setup for the money. What would be a better option?

Thanks.

Absolutely. Using a tower with a sub makes as much sense as a screen door on a submarine. As for the sub, PSW 10 is OK, if you get two.

I am looking at sub 1000 with receiver. I am no audiophile but I know decent sound when I do, or don't hear it. I have little knowledge of speaker companies and their product capabilities. I just saw newegg with m60s for 80 bucks the last two days and they have good reviews. Do you suggest a certain company for movies? I have heard good things about the energy rc minis as well. I just don't want to be too tinny.

The room has an open end and is a bit strange in shape. Considerations to make with that? Pardon the mess. Construction zone.

I would advise if you are set with Polk , 60's + CS2/CS20 surrounds 40's but a Polk sub , i would chose something like the SVS PB1000 , yes it makes a huge difference compared with the Polk sub .

Polk speakers are good for home theater because of the bright sound. I power the Polks with a Denon 1913 and they sound fantastic in my room. I would skip the polk sub.

If you get a great price on the monitors go for it . The SVS it's $499 but that's one thing that you wont regret it .

So would you recommend going with the tower 60s up front or the bookshelf 40s.

Do you have other bookshelves you like in said price range.

he monitor 60's and cs2 up front with monitor 30's for surrounds.

As for a subwoofer something like the Bic F12 or Polk PSW505.

That is a home theater set up that has an amazing bang for buck value

Depending on the configuration of your room you have the choice of Di/Bipole ones and they take less space than a book shelf ones but this i would advise you to listen to them like the Polk F/XiA4 or sometimes you can find the FXi3 , but they might be a bit higher in price than the monitor 40's .
Keeping all around the monitors i would chose the 40's they move more air than the 30's . Of course all of this is keeping in a controlled budget and great sound ( the 60's are great for music also ) . The sub has i told you is going to be a very important piece of your system and it's best to spend a bit more without having the regret that something is missing since you are the one that as to live with it . Regarding the SVS i know a lot of guys who had several low budget subs and changed for the SVS and they went WoW , but you can also enquire here on the forum for sure there are a SVS owners tread and ask around wink.gif .

Sounds like a plan. With the 60s, do I have to offset them from the wall or can I keep them right against the wall? How far to either side of the tv is normal for towers

It seems like you made up your mind - however, skip the PSW10 sub.

Maybe. I am good at flaking though. Probably going to research one more day so any other opinions are always welcome.

HTD makes nice stuff - look at the Level Three center and bookshelf
http://www.htd.com/Products/level-three-speakers

And then the sub and receiver, that I listed in post #6
