Futureshop claims these are regularly over $1400/pair. I bought the pair for $500 which seems like a great deal.
My concern isn't that they likely cost closer to $1000/pair (not $1400), and that their marketing is misleading. Rather, I can't find any recent mentions of the "Klipsch Reference IV 3-Way RF82" on the internet.
I can find lots of recent reviews/mentions of the Klipsch Reference II RF82 but not the Klipsch Reference IV RF82 -- the mentions of the Klipsch Reference IV speakers are from around 2006.
Can anyone shed some light on this? I'd hate to think I just bought a pair of 7 year old speakers!!

I'm sure you can always take them back if you're concerned because they might be 7 years old.

For one the name. What you have are the Klipsch Reference IV 3-Way which technically are not the RF82's. Since the specs are nearly the same I'd sit back and enjoy the music - with some expensive beer with the money you saved. And tell everyone they're listening to RF82's.
They are RF-82's, just with slightly different specs because from what I gather they are older/sold overeas. Futureshop is calling them "RF82's" as you can see here.
Thanks Knucklehead90, Reference_head, afrogt & ousooner2. thanks to your input i decided to order a third one and use it as a center channel!
I wonder where they're getting 3-way if the RF-82 II is a 2-way? I wonder if there are any material changes to the speaker also. If it's just Futureshop using a different name to sell the same product...kind of crappy on their part, but still a great price! Good pickup
I'm not gonna lie to you, as a new owner of 3 of these speakers, I will always wonder (just a little bit) if there are any material changes to the speaker...lol
Ahhhh…. Don't worry about it. Sounds like you got a great deal on some very good speakers. Don't think too hard about it and just enjoy em. If you like them that's really all that matters.

The old Klipsch forum had the year span that models were in production. It doesn't anymore. But 2006 seems too long ago to me.
Anyway, the RF-82 has been available in FutureShop for a while now, at least last spring if not more, so this isn't a new thing. They are also sold in Europe. I doubt that they are old speakers waiting in boxes, but maybe remaining parts being newly assembled?
Still a great deal for $500 a pair. I would buy a pair if I needed speakers right now.
from the look of it there the old version RF-82 and are 2-way allthough they have 2 woofers. for the price 250 each its good deal and the're good speakers.
