I am still narrowing down my home theatre.  My living room 24' x 18' with 8' ceilings and 95% of the time will be for watching movies.  I have a 60" Samsung LED television in a small corner, There is 2' of open space (for the sub-woofer) next to the tv, before hitting the fireplace.

I did alot of reading online of the different speakers (Polk Audio, Klipsch, BIC, Definitive Technolgy).  The reviews seem to be great.  These are setups I have come up with and wanted to hear from others who might help me make up my mind:

Klipsch:

  • Klipsch RB-51 II - front
  • Klipsch RC-52 II - center
  • Klipsch Rs-42 II - rear (not sure about these)
  • Klipsch SW110, RW12D or SW-350?

Definitive Technology:

  • 2 - DT Pro Monitor 1000 - front
  • Rears - ?
  • 1 - DT Pro Center 2000 - center
  • 1 - DT Prosub 1000 - subwoofer

BIC America:

  • BC America DV62si - front
  • BIC America DV-62CLRS - center
  • rears - ?
  • BIC America F12 or PL 200 - subwoofer

Polk Audio:

  • front ?
  • Polk Audio CSI A6 - center
  • Polk Audio FXI A4 - rear

The more reviews I read, the more I find that I like.  When I go to the audio stores to listen, sales reps want to push their own speakers to sell.  Any ideas???

Definitive Technology Pro Monitor 1000 fronts with a Pro Cinema 2000 center with Pro Monitor 800 for surrounds. Do not use DT for sub. The HSU STF 2 is $320.00 and is a nice sub. The SVS PB 1000 sub is $500 and is one of the best if not the best under $500. Check out DT's website for pricing. You can buy the speakers separate.

Epson Pro Cinema 6030 | OPPO BDP - 103 | Pioneer Elite VSX 70 | Definitive Technology PM 1000 (L/R) | PC 2000 (C) | SR8040BP's (7.1) | Rythmik LV12R | Carada Criterion Brilliant White 118" | URC MX 780 & MRF 350 | ATS Acoustic Panels | Sanus AV Rack | DirecTv | Roku 2 | Monoprice 12AWG |

You should post on the "calling all polkies" thread for advice on matching and even places to shop. Polk has an ebay store that sells refurb and discontinued items at great prices with warranties.

I was gonna to go with the polk tsi line but i was convinved in going with the rtia line. More expensive but extremly very well worth it. I got the rtia7's for left n right and the csia6 center. These speakers are amazing and the towers have enough bass for me to hold off on getting the svs pb-1000 sub for later. I just ordered my fxia6 for surrounds so i'll be running a 5.0 for now. I guess my neighbors may have another couple months of peace before i get my sub smile.gif

The klipsch 52/51 series are likely too small for the room if you want to get full sound. I recommend going to the 62/61 series for fronts and centers and 52 for surrounds.

No need for a klipsch sub. You're better off with an internet direct sub.

- Klipsch RF-82 ii, RC-62 ii, RS-52 ii
- Klipsch RW-12D
- Sony HW50es
- Firehawk G3
- Denon 2113

Thanks for you input.  I have narrowed down my theatre system to 4 Definitive Technology ProMonitor PM1000 (front and possibly rear).  The center will be a Definitive Technology ProCenter 2000 and the subwoofer will be SVS PB1000.  Now I'm trying to figure out which receiver will go best with them.  Any ideas???  Leaning to Yamaha, Onkyo or Denon.

rocko57,
I recently purchased 4 ProMonitor 1000s and a ProCenter 2000 to replace two undewhelming soundbar purchases to go with my 60" Panasonic ST60. Picked up great deals at Best Buy for open box sub and receiver (Klipsch SW450 and Sony STRDN1040). Hoping to have everything up and running by next week.

Curious how it all worked out for you.

Is your system up and running? The PM1000's with the PC2000 and a SVS PB 1000 are a great package. Which receiver did you go with?

when it comes to support definitive technology is unequaled! Have 7001bps with 3000 clr plus in walls for surround. Even after warranty long passed (6 years) DT STILL stands behind their product. Replaced woofer on one and amp on another. Now that's customer service!

similar questions from newbie

I am been researching for last few weeks to buy my first home theatre. I have shortlisted three speakers. I would appreciate thoughts /suggestions on the following combinations:

Klipsch:
Klipsch Quintet 5
Subwoofer - not yet decided but considering Polk Audio PSW505 ; 12'' driver, 300 watt

Definitive Technology:
ProCinema 600
Subwoofer - not yet decided but considering Polk Audio PSW505 ; 12'' driver, 300 watt (same as above)

Energy 5.1 Take Classic
Subwoofer included in the package - 200 watt Energy subwoofer; 8" driver

For AV Receiver in each case, i am thinking Yamaha RX-V675 7.2 Channel

The Klipsch Quintet and Def Tech ProCinema 600 is costing me almost the same, while Energy 5.1 is costing about $250 less since the package includes the sub.

Questions
1. Between Klipsch and DefTech models above, which one would you recommend? note price is almost same
2. Is is worth spending $250 extra on DefTech and Klipsch over Energy 5.1?
3. Is the Polk subwoofer a good choice for the DefTech or Klipsch? Would you recommend anything better in $200 range (that's the price at which Polk is available on Amazon)

My living room is 23' x 13'; living room is 13'x13', rest is dining area. I realize the system above may be small for my room, but i dont want to spend more than $1000-$1200 for now - which is what the above combinations would cost me

thanks for you help!
