Hello all, thanks for reading this. I am currently trying to take advantage of some of the holiday sales and want to upgrade my current surround system. I already scored a great deal on a Yamaha RX-V773 and have a Klipsch RW-12D. Its now time for my fronts, center, surrounds. I am limited on space so the fronts will need to be bookshelves. I was looking into the Klipsch since I love my RW Sub and see that I can get their Synergy bookshelves for about 1/3 of the Reference series speakers. I am not an audiophile by any means. My system is in an open floor plan living room. The spacing available for these bookshelves will only allow me to get the RB-61 or the Synergy B-20. Will I really hear a difference, enough to justify spending 3 times more?

The Rw12D is certainly a very good sub, but you can get better-sounding speakers than the Klipsch speakers for the same money.

Their Synergy line is the El Cheapo line developed for Wal-Mart, and sounds like crap IMO.

I suggest that you get four of the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers, which will only cost $700 total, and will sound great.

The Diamond 10 CS center speaker is $299 at Music Direct and other dealers.

Stereophile did an article on the Diamond 10.1 a while ago, and you can read it on their website.

You can't get a Klipsch speaker that sounds that good without spending a LOT more money.

Thanks, not what I wanted to hear. I thought it might be the case but definitely not "music" to my ears. Thanks for the info on the Wharfedales I will take a look.

I have the Synergy B-20s. I think they are good for the price ($130 @ NewEgg currently. Can you do better? Sure you can but if you're not an audiophile,I think you will be satisfied. Of course the speaker snobs will call them "trash", go to Best Buy and decide for yourself

Some might call Synergy line "El Cheapo", but unless you can afford and bought Palladium in your living room, you are wrong.

Synergy line is the cheapest and least glorified one but it never was designed for Walmart. A few ppl I know who own very expensive HT's and had different brands and models in the past and none of them would call Synergy PoS line. I don't like Synergy center speakers because of their design, but C-2/20 ans C-3 sound very good and F-2/20, F-3/30 towers are just amazing for its price.

F-3/30 can keep up with much more expensive speakers, looks very nice and built very well too.

Synergy surround speakers are good too. I'm still using SS-1 and absolutely happy with them.

One more huge advantage of the Synergy line: due to their affordability and quality Synergy line has very good resale value and very popular on the second hand market.

Thanks guys, I didn't know Best Buy carried them. I will definitely go listen to them. I was hoping for the B20 in fronts and the C20 for the center as far as the backs, I would love the S20 but I have not seen them for less than $500 which is a little steep for me.

I had a chance to get a pair of B&W towers for $700. don't remember model but they were as tall as f-3, had kevlar cones and were like $1400 a piece. seller (my buddy) had a receipt, boxes and speakers were in perfect shape. they did sound good, but were short on "low side" even vs my F-3's. eventually, after posting them on CL for 3 month, my friend sold them to a guy from FL I believe.

IMHO they didn't worth $700. Expensive cabinets, fancy drivers and sound that can not be testified by price.

I think I will head out to BB tonight and listen to them. Hopefully they have them hooked up. Our local Best Buys isn't the best.

check your local CL.

DFW CL, F-20 for $200.

or VF-36 FOR $250.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/ele/4235256595.html

and you not necessarily have to use matching surrounds. go with any Klipsch SRS speakers, they will blend nicely.

or look for B-2- exactly the same thing with a bit different design.

Don't know what your budget is, but you can get the RB61II in cherry for $400 or the RB-600 for the same price. Or give AVS here a call and see what they can do.
