Hello people,

I'm new in here and I wanted to ask some questions to some experts here.

Last year I purchased 2 B&W 685 speakers with a marantz cr-603. I'm very happy with it and it sounds very well. But I want to upgrade my setup with a surround receiver so I can enjoy my movies.

So I was thinking to buy a new surround receiver (maybe the marantz sr6008 ) and 2 new front speakers. The new speakers will be used as front speakers(The old B&W 685's will be used as rear speakers.) I had my thoughts on some floorstanders because i miss some "thrill" and "bass"...

1) Therefore I would like to ask which speakers sound realy great for the price. So I'm looking for 2 new front speakers which deliver more bass/punch, and which will match a marantz sr6008 and the combination of the B&W's 685 as rear speakers. I've already listened to the B&W 684 but I didn't liked them that much.

2) And one last (maybe dumb) question: will my speakers sound better with the marantz sr6008 receiver instead of the marantz micro cr603 system?

Thanks!

The room is about 5x10 meters and I'm willing to pay max. 700 dollar/euro/speaker.

Any feedback will be welcome!

I would buy two more 685 speakers and get a matching center speaker (the HTM62) and a good subwoofer, such as the Monitor Audio Silver RXW12.

You MUST have a powerful 12-inch subwoofer for movies, so the best sound will come from 5 matching speakers and the subwoofer.

I think the 684 and 683 are NOT good-sounding speakers, by the way. The 685 is far better.

I would pick either the Cambridge 551R or the NAD T 758 receiver rather than the SR6008. Don't even consider the Micro.

I think they will do a much better job of driving your speakers and give you better sound quality than the Marantz, and the prices are similar.

Hi commsysman! Thanks for the reply and the advize ;-)

At this moment the B&W 685 are driven by the marantz cr603.  With an upgrade to Cambridge 551R or Nad T 758 my speakers will play better in stereo mode?

The only thing I miss in the NAD or Cambridge is the spotify app or at least the ability to stream my music with Airplay. But thanks for pointing out to these 2 brands!

Stick with the Marantz 6008! NAD receivers are know to be buggy.
The room correction system available on the Marantz is SUPERiOR to either
The Cambridge or NAD. The big PLUS is the Marantz has the FEATURES
You want. I have a Marantz sr5003 still going strong for 5 years now.

Unless your current reciever is defective or doesn't have enough power, An upgrade will not likely make your speakers sound better! Unless, of course it has better room correction software....

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

The main advantage of the Marantz SR6008 is the Audyssey XT calibration software. I was going to recommend the 683s but it looks like your budget won't accommodate. Therefore, I think another pair of 685s would be the best match. I would also get a center speaker and subwoofer when finances allow. Another 685 would be the best match as center since the 600 series centers generally aren't well regarded. However, that is your call and you might be satisfied with either the HTM62 or HTM61 (larger of the two with dual 6.5in woofers).

This weekend I will listen to the 683's.

Just last question. Should I go with the Marantz sr6008 / Denon AVR-X3000 or Denon AVR-X4000?

The Denon X4000 retails same price here as the Marantz sr6008

The Denon would be a fine choice as well. Both have Audyssey XT so the choice is really based on what features are important to you.
