3 good options, as there is no one best speaker for everybody.

I don't know what your budget is, but some of the best affordable speakers are made by Wharfedale, PSB, KEF and Focal.

They regularly get favorable reviews from the press and from postings here.

Music Direct has a pretty good line of speakers; that is one resource to check out.

I agree that these are good options as well as the ones afrogt mentioned. I have the PSB Imagine series and have heard Focal. Both are quality speakers. I really like my PSBs.

But nothing beats listening to speakers for yourself and seeing which one's you like best. As afrogt said, there is no one best speaker for everyone. So try and demo as many speakers as you can.

As far as speakers matching a particular type of AVR? I've never heard of it so I would just focus on finding a speaker you really enjoy listening to. Have fun.:)

It's ideal if you can audition speakers in your own room. If you're having difficulty finding dealers, look into an outfit like Crutchfield who have a 60 day money back guarantee. You pay return shipping if you don't like how they sound, but it's $10 on a pair of bookshelf speakers. Here's their bookshelf range: http://www.crutchfield.com/g_37900/Bookshelf-Speakers.html

Other than the good internet direct options listed by afrogt above, Aperion Audio offer free shipping both ways. Around your budget: http://www.aperionaudio.com/speakers/intimus-home-theater-speakers/intimus-5b-bookshelf-speaker.

SVSound also have a free 45 day trial period I think, but their server is not responding for me at the moment. confused.gif (https://www.svsound.com/speakers)
