Honestly a good sub will play in all areas equally. Whats your room demensions? How big are the openings?

A good subwoofer is usually good for both movies and music. Some will tell you otherwise but that's pretty much a myth. Here is a great link that answers some popular myths about subwoofers that can be misleading at times:

That's pretty large area once the kitchen is taken into consideration. I'm assuming 8 ft ceilings and at least a 8x10 kitchen. IMO the BIC sub wouldn't begin to pressurize that. Your space is about the same size as mine. I would look at the SVS PB12-NSD or the PSA XV15. I would suggest ported over sealed as well (which both of those are).

That said, I still think you should contact SVS and PSA and get their thoughts.

Are you getting towers because the bookshelves lack bass?

If so consider a lot of people just go with bookshelves and buy a good subwoofer for the bass. Most people run their towers as small (in their room calibration) and set the crossover to 80hz anyway so towers don't really use their woofers very much.

Why do they do this? Because a subwoofer has one job to do and that is bass, so a good sub will do bass much better than any speaker and that's why people allow the sub to handle the bass.

If you like your bookshelves sound quality then I would keep them and pour the money that you were going to put into the towers into, a subwoofer.

rears 2xRB-81-II 150W 44Hz-24KHz

Yep, work your way up from the inside out. Check out your receivers specs and make sure it'll take care of your future upgrades. Then upgrade your front towers and center, make sure theyre matching and will give you the sound your wanting. Then add a good sub and buy the best one you can afford, keeping in mind that you could get a 2nd matching sub in the future and give you an even better response in a room that size. Every time I bought things in a rush I kept having to return stuff until I finally got to where I wanted, it sucked

im using crappy Polk audio T15s as fronts, they were on sale for 50 dollars at best buy.  I just like the way the towers look too. Or should i just buy another pair of BS22s and a pioneer cs22 center, and use the rest towards a good sub?

For example, every time I bought better speakers my receiver would lack, every time I'd upgrade one thing something else would be a weak link. Once I restarted with an awesome receiver, I got speakers and everything else on par, then some killer subs. That's when I finally was happy

I know what you mean about liking the looks of towers, I do too. :)

I can't say regarding the Pioneers because I've never heard them. But, if you already own them and you really like them then you will know best if you should buy more. Right now the FS52s are at Amazon for $125 each. So that's under your budget, that's a good thing.

Similar story to mine. I was unhappy with my satellites, so I bought bookshelves but decided I wanted towers instead so I took back the bookshelves (after two days) and bought the towers. Then my weaker AVR no longer made me happy so I had to get a new one. Then I needed better bass. But this time I got smart and bought a very good subwoofer right from the start and got the PSA XV15 to replace my smaller, weaker infinities. Although the XV15 is not nearly as good as your Triaxes, but few subs are.

Get the Pioneers since they match your BS22 surrounds.

Or if you want to go a completely different route then look at the Cambridge S70 towers. But you'll also need to add the matching s50 center later.

I think I agree; but the Cambridge are nice at this price point. Decisions decisions. Glad I'm not then one having to make it for once.

I may stick woth the pioneers, the safe choice as well they match the rears, which I do like. I just wish that sub wasn't so much money, so I can get it quicker.

I hear you on that. I'm busy saving right now for either a 2nd XV15 or a Denon X4000. Always saving for some upgrade but I really like what I have right now so I'm happy.

Blackmamba, I'm looking forward to your Christmas almost as much as I'm looking forward to my own. I can't wait to see how you pull this off. Also can't wait to hear about her reaction. You all deserve to have a super Merry Christmas after the stuff you experienced.

What line of Klipsch towers are you considering? Crutchfield has $100 off on some of theirs right now. The RF-62 II and the new RF 600 are both $100 off but that means they still cost $399 each. That might be more than you want to spend, don't know.

That stinks, I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope you can get another invite somewhere.
