Hi everyone, so i have a big decision which most of you wont think is very big. I have 2 Polk Audio Rti A9s and a Pioneer SC-1228-K receiver. I am currently happy with the sound but was wondering if i will be blown away by adding an emotiva xpa-2 to the mix. I am 50/50 music/ht and in a room about 10x11. My other option would be to get a center channel OR a sub. Which do you guys think i should do first without any upgrades in the near future?

You should have all the bass you need from those speakers without a subwoofer, unless you listen to pipe organ music a lot. The bass will be even better with the XPA-2.

The XPA-2 will really make those speakers sing, compared to the iffy Pioneer Class D amplifiers (yuk), which do not sound good to me.

That would be my choice ( I assume your receiver has preouts to go to the amplifier). I think you will be blown away by the improvement in sound quality.

When you have speakers like yours,I find that a center speaker is not really an improvement in most cases.

If you are using them for ht at all, adding a sub will be a MUCH bigger improvement than adding an external amp.

+1. The three 7" woofers in those towers have less low frequency output capacity than one 12" subwoofer, and it's impossible to place towers to give both the best imaging and midbass performance as well as the best sub bass performance at the same time. As for the benefit of an external amp, you can't hear the difference unless the AVR is severely underpowered.
As for a center, it must be equal or very close to the capacity and timbre of the mains above 80Hz. A center will allow you to spread the L/R far enough to give proper left/right imaging. OTOH if your room won't allow them to be spread by at least six feet, preferably more, then a center may not be of any benefit.

I doubt that an external amp will make a difference in that small of a room with that close of a listening position. Unless your already driving your amp to clipping, in which case you're likely deaf or near deaf already.

That pioneer puts out quite a bit of power, and the amps are not "iffy".

Like mentioned already, if you need more bass get a good sub.
