I moved into a home that was a builder spec house, it's got a finished basement with a theater room with speakers all wired up but it was never used. The problem is that the wires are all run into a utility room 30-40 feet away. This is a problem because I'll be installing an XBox360 and PS3 into the system and the range for those is like 30 feet AT BEST but my setup is through 3 walls too so it's too far.

The potential saving grace is that there are two coax cables run FROM that distant utility room, TO a small room just behind the theater that I want to use as the hidden equipment area. So my big question is: Is it possible to use 1-2 coax cables to transmit multiple speaker wire signals? I can't see how. But it never hurts to ask.

Presuming to answer questions you may ask, I think it would be difficult to run a new run of speaker wire from the utility room to anywhere. It's a completely finished basement.

I am feeling sunk. Any help would be appreciated.

Coax cables should not be used for speakers. They probably are too small a gauge and too much capacitance.

What if you run separate HDMI cables from the utility room (AVR) to the closer room and setup the xbox and playstation there?

It's really not feasible to run wires.

I found a component speaker cable in the run and am going to try to use those as speaker cables for the return trip back from the utility room, I'll post my results.

Problem solved! I was able to successfully use the component cables to send the speaker signal back where I want it. Whew!
