Being days later I'd feel irresponsible to comment on little details, but this I can say...on Sunday when we listened, I told Andrew I thought he'd be crazy to spend one dollar upgrading from them to anything we heard. It's hard to say because it was different times, songs, eq, but I really like them. If I'd found a deal on them like he did, I'd be hard pressed to buy anything else. It basically makes for a setup, IMO, good enough that you can enjoy it all the time and tinker with a monster diy world beater type project and let it take however long it takes...heck if it didn't work out, these would make for great forever speakers (which in this crowd we know means a year or two biggrin.gif )

Lol exactly. Thank you very much for your info. I could afford one pair of Danley speakers as it stands now. However my issue is I've been seduced by 7 channel music listening because it is so immersive. It stirs my soul. So whatever setup I choose it needs to have 7 matching speakers for the surrounded by walls of sound experience I've grown to love. This would be a wallet burner with Danley. eek.gifbiggrin.gif

Andrew, we gotta extend an invite to Tom to the next GTG. After falling in love with the sound of his speakers I have to meet the person who designed them. Besides, anyone who can describe humans as "cloth covered water bags" will fit right in! biggrin.gif

I think perhaps writing a review to end all reviews! He was certainly one of the most focused on the day, hands down. Enjoyed meeting him and conversing when speakers were not playing smile.gif Otherwise he was pretty dialed in. I look forward to his review for sure!

Bill? No excuses Bill, bring the noise!

Tom, we need the DIY version of the SM60's...... NEED them!

I got a chance to hear a set of SM50's a few days ago and they were awesome, I was set to buy but there was a rattle in the speaker, sounded like a blown driver IMO but the guy selling them was being a tool and didn't want to fix anything and for his price it wasn't worth the effort just in case ( they were pretty beat up too) Too bad.... I wonder how Beasts 60m's compare to the 50s? I guess Beast will know soon enough lol

In his defense, the back of the pick up truck does have the word "POWA WAGON" on it, that has to count for something tongue.gif

I guess I should feel really inadequate now frown.gif only using three channels of my PA 7-350 at 850watts per channel.

***Disclaimer*** I know its not exactly 850watts but in my defence that's what the manual says biggrin.gif

No they should be fine. Shipping out in the cold in this weather creates condensation when you bring them in the warm house.

Still have Cats

Sweet new toys. Once they defrost and break in, let us know your thoughts and how they compare to the seatons.

I think the frost will do irreparable damage. As a community service I will volunteer to haul them to the recycling center.

Awesome speakers, I have lusted over the Legacies for years.

At last years GTG, I liked the York's the best, with the Noesis a close second, but I did not get to hear the Cat's then. But I did hear those Cat's a few weeks ago and did not like them as much as the aforementioned two brands.

I think the age of the listener (I'm 57 years old) and the degrading of one's hearing as you get older plays a part. Your harsh sound can be my better sound. In addition, no matter how old you are, wax build-up in your ears can also dim the high notes. I find the high treble notes much more crisper after I clean the wax out of my ears. Go to your local pharmacy and get a ear wax cleaning kit, follow the directions (3 day process) and then listen to the same music again. You will be amazed.

Beastaudio and I are in agreement. Anything below 1000 watts. 500 watts is decent in my opinion. Anything below 500 watts sounds like a typical receiver's onboard amp to me but with more headroom to avoid clipping.

This is very, very, very true...

I was showing off my Noesis to people who would listen to them.. there were some DTS live videos (not sure if DTS makes them sharper or not, because these never happens with CDs)... that were piercing to my nephew (who's 18).. he couldn't stand it.. he says it was too sharp.. hurts his ear... to me, they sounded just fine... and then i realized that he was probably hearing a lot more of the high end than i could. I then tested the same songs to people between the age of 18-35, and the older they are, the more the like that song... anyone below 30 seems to find it harsh..

Please don't take away from this that the speakers are harsh.. they are not.. probably just some DTS music videos.. these never happens to any of my CDs..
mhrischuk's Avatar mhrischuk 05:12 AM 01-25-2014
Wouldn't it be cool if you could monitor ones ears at the output to the brain?
mhrischuk's Avatar mhrischuk 08:59 AM 01-25-2014
So my new speakers come covered in this sweet lined velvet drawstring covers with "Legacy" embroidered on them.

They are all black.

After setting up I showed my wife one of the bags...

She looks and says ..... "Body Bag" eek.gif

Nice. The speakers didn't have a toe tag on any of their feet, did they?

I really want to hear these! When I get my theater finished, I would love to set up a little 2ch system. Some tube amps, simple preamp and something like a pair of these or a set of Salks. I figure you will be selling these in a year, so I will wait and buy them from you then. tongue.gif Enjoy your new toys, I heard the air motion tweeter sounds incredible. Look forward to your impressions.

Is it just me or does it seem like a few hundo spent on room treatments and measuring gear might save thousands on speaker "upgrade" costs ?

Naw ... never mind ... keep up the good work. Our economy needs you tongue.gifwink.gif

The grills are constructed of MDF, are fairly massive and they extend out, away from the speaker face. They cause a significant amount of diffraction that interferes with dispersion and sound quality. They *look* great, but for serious listening, I suggest you remove them.
