Ok I'm looking to put a system in my bedroom. I assumed I would just put all the speakers in the upper corners of the room except the center and sub. However, after further research I discovered I should have them around ear height. The problem is I have my 60" tv in the corner. I have it in the corner bc it's a plasma and it gets reflections from the windows on the right. My room is 12x12 with an 8ft ceiling. If I put one of the speakers above the tv it probably wouldn't sound right. Am I right?

Sorry about the small pic.

Why not just buy some black out curtains? Probably 20-30 bucks for some cheap ones at Wal-Mart.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Eclipse-Samara-Blackout-Energy-Efficient-Curtain/15734048

Also available on Amazon for a little bit more.

To answer your question, yes it won't sound right. What kind of speakers/receiver do you have?

Living Room
*NHT ThreeC *NHT Classic Three's (4) *Denon 3313ci *Outlaw Audio LFM-1EX (2)

Game Room
*NHT Absolute Tower (2) *Denon E300

Haven't bought the equipment yet. I was looking at some of the refurb receivers on accessories4less that were under $200. Not sure about speakers yet. I was looking at the $84 monoprice set but I'm not sure how good they are. I've never had real surround sound so I'm guessing most any of them will sound good to me.

Under $300 for everything. I know it's tight but it's just to get me by for now.

My old room mate isn't really into HT like I am and he bought this:

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3500-5-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B0077V88V8/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1390271610&sr=8-6&keywords=5.1+speakers

He likes it and it "does the job".

Those look good Mark. Of course the first option looks best but a little over budget. Would there be much difference with this:

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1513/DENON-AVR-1513-5.1ch-Home-Theater-Receiver-3D-ready/1.html             Denon AVR 1513

and this..

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/YAMNSAP2600BL/YAMAHA-NS-AP2600-Satellite-Speaker-Package/1.html#!more          Yamaha APS2600

and this...

http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-10-Inch-Monitor-Subwoofer/dp/B0002KVQBA/ref=pd_sim_e_6                                                                         Polk PSW10 sub

Are those Yamaha satellites as good as those home theater packages?

do not buy that polk sub, buy this instead

http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-1000-10-100-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-628

or this

http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-1200-12-120-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-629

a review..

http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/speaker-subwoofer-reviews/71766-dayton-audio-sub-1200-subwoofer-review.html

and this again is not too bad, not the greatest sub but should do ok in your room.

Look very similar. Might just be a older model?

Might be cheaper going through Amazon. Accessories4less charges quite a bit for shipping IMO plus I'm a Prime member, so I use that as much as possible.

I think he was talking about the Onkyo AVX 290 being very similar to the Onkyo S3500

Looks like I've got some thinking to do. Those Yamahas I mentioned, are they any good? I'm more of a TV guy so I know next to nothing about audio

Unless you move the TV out of the corner get a sound bar and be done with it. Surround sound is currently not feasible with your current setup
