Depends somewhat on the lengths you need but I buy in bulk so will usually look at Amazon for Prime eligible stuff in the length and gauge I'm interested in. I last bought a 250' roll of 14g a couple years ago and am about to use the last of that. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=speaker%20wire&sprefix=speaker+%2Caps&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aspeaker%20wire

www.monoprice.com is always a good choice. If you want pre-made sections, www.bluejeanscable.com is a great choice.

How long of a run is doable do you think with 14gauge wire ? I'm about to wires up my basement and am uncertain if I should run 12 or 14.

Use this tool, I can't imagine needing more than 14 gauge, unless you have low impedance speakers and are sending a lot of power to them over a very long run.

Wire chart

I tend to use 14 awg - unless the distance would require 12 awg

wire - 100 ft

I guess I should have said speaker "cables"...

Like the Monster Z1 speaker cables...

Or the AudioQuest speaker cables...

But, obviously at a "reasonable" price...

I am looking for the ones with the already connected banana connections...

Not just speaker wire...

Thanks!

The same still applies. Paying more than a dollar a foot plus five dollars each for connectors is money down the drain. And that price is the maximum you should pay. you can find plenty of cables for half that price that cannot be exceeded in performance. Connectors, BTW, are convenient, but unnecessary.

Oy vey. Don't buy those brands whatever you end up doing. They're just evil.

You can't strip wire or attach a banana connector? I always do my own, there's even a thread that will show you how to jacket them for good aesthetic effect. Making only the length you need is a lot easier in many ways than buying a bunch of different length pre-mades; especially when you're running 5 channels and more. I'd go monoprice or bluejeans as has been suggested for pre-made cables. Direct connection is even better if you don't plan on making frequent changes to your connections....

OK, now don't flame me - I am just repeating what I have heard - more than once...

I have been told that Momoprice and Blue Jeans were over-rated...?

And the only reason they became so big to people on AVS - is because they sponsor the forum...

Again, that is just what I had heard....

So, please don't beat on the messenger!

Not going to flame/beat you up

However, I have used so-called entry/low, mid and higher-level cable,
And they all sound as good as RadioShack cable.

All cable has to meet the cable and crossover in the speakers, and you
can not transfigure/transform the sound.

Open up some speakers and look inside - and see the wire that they use

LOL :)

I am basically looking for AudioQuest speaker cables with banana ends at a "reasonable" price - not $250 per 10 ft. speaker cable...

Anyone know of any manufacturer?

There you go!!! :)

That is EXACTLY the kind I am talking about!

Thank you!!!

EDIT: But it doesn't say what gauge the wire is and it looks rather thin...  The 12 gauge version looks to be a lot better (and more, lol)

It doesn't matter, making a speaker cable is inconsequentially simple, and that vendor can be trusted to support you in the event of any flawed samples.

You have your recommendation - if you want to amuse yourself, then go ahead and have fun.smile.gif
We who have been around know better, and are saving money on speaker wire >> if you want
something like $200/300 AudioQuest, then go for it - hook it up to some Sony bookshelf speakers
and you will find that nothing so-called magic, will take place.

Yes, and thanks to everyone who responded!

And, I agree, there is NO way I would ever pay $200 for a cable!

That I why I asked if anyone knew of comparable cables at a "reasonable" price...

I do, however, really like the looks of factory done pre-terminated cables - it is just a personal preference.

Again, thanks to everyone!

Not to mention the power cables. Make sure you get the dark ones, to complement any bright, digital "gears" you might have. They're illiterate in English, and physics.

Just guessing, but one can probably find comparable cables direct-shipped from someplace on the Pacific Rim on eBay, for less than half the asking price. Nicely made stuff, I cut it up and reterminate it whenever I need some kind of pro/consumer adapter cable. I'm not adverse to spending $10 for a nice cable, especially when I get 2 cables out of it! ;-)

I bought some 14 gauge speaker cable, a reel long enough to biamp a few of my speakers for affordable price. I dread to think what a big name brand would cost with such thick gauge wire.

What EXACTLY are you looking for?

Something that carries the signal to your speakers? If so then forget "fancy" cables and get some 12ga romex electrical wire and be done with it-it will do the job just fine.

Are looking for something "cool looking" ? If so then search around untill you find something that "looks cool" to you.

Are you looking for something flexible? Then get stranded cable. Music stores (as in instruments/PA gear-NOT records) are a good place for cables used on the road.

I don't care what you have been told-all the fancy wires do is make your wallet lighter. And a fancy $200 cable is considered garbage (by the people that use such things) you really need to be looking at $10,000.00 cables if you something "decent".

I think you need to find some new people to talk to-those that will tell you THE TRUTH and not fill your head will all sorts of wrong ideas.
