I have owned the Bose for about 12 years now. I have begun upgrading my A/V system - new Panasonic LED and Yamaha RX-V673. I have been very happy with the Bose for movies, but not that much for 2-chanel music (rock,rap,top40) I am currently using a Polk sub and JVC surround (will upgrade in future), which do the job fine. My question: Would there be a significant difference in the quality of sound between the Bose and the Infinity? Also I have read that the Infinity's are more of a 4ohm speaker, but with my receiver should not be a problem.

Is this a joke?

The Infinity speakers would utterly and totally detroy Bose AM. In fact my Wharfedales 9.0 at £40 would too

Krell Evolution 900e x 7

Bose Jewel speakers.

Jealous of my speakers?

1. The infinity has tweeters.
2. The infinity has a woofer and a midrange, both bigger than the crappy midrange driver in the Bose!
3. Your Bose system has no subwoofer.

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

If I'm not mistaken, your Yamaha receiver is rated at 4 ohms, so it definitely will be fine with the Infinitiy's.

And yes. You should find the Infinity to be much better for everything. Are you planning on buying a matching center channel, too? It's generally important for the front sound stage to timbre match for best sound, and that usually means buying speakers in the same make/model line.

Here is the matching center:

I use the earlier version (exact same thing except for color and model number) and I really like it.

A huge thumbs up on the Infinities over the Bose.

. I am planning on a matching center speaker, but am going to wait for a good deal. I purchased the infinity's on sale for$108 each on an Amazon lightening deal, but have to wait 1 to 2 months for delivery. Would Bi-Amping these speakers be advantageous?

No advantage to bi-amping. It's marketing gimmick.

Biamping is worth it for high quality speakers and components.

But not on lo-fi.

Not in the least, assuming you mean passive biamplification. Those who believe it does matter, don't understand the physics involved and haven't done bias controlled listening tests. What they hear results from hearing bias. Those of us who have done bias controlled tests can tell you that it is a useless endeavor.

+1. So-called 'passive bi-amping' is an oxymoron, as bi-amping is by definition active, using an active crossover prior to amplification to replace the passive crossovers in the speakers. 'Passive bi-amping' is as useful as a screen door on a submarine. rolleyes.gif

Hi mtsinai96, maybe I miss understand bi-amping or bi-wiring. But I don't believe you can do this with the Infinity P363 (if that is the speaker you purchased).

P363 has single set of binding post. No dual terminals for bi-amp or bi-wiring. Not that it would do any good anyway...

I don't consider the speakers in question to be "lo-fi" . Neither should you. They perform as well as speakers over twice their price from 10 years ago. Tell us when you actually heard a comparison of a speaker both bi-amped and not. What were the differences?

Actually, the Infinity 363 speakers sound pretty good - amazingly good for their price. Fatbottom, we dug into the issue of "system resolution" in our series of bias controlled tests because audiophiles always bring it up when they criticize bias controlled testing. What we found was that the fidelity of the individual products used to do the tests weren't critical. We got similar results regardless of the components used in the test systems. Understand that we didn't get involved in anything subjective. The idea was simply to say, is this one A or B. If they could be distinguished from one another, the differences were considered to be audible. If not, then they were considered to be inaudible. We never did a preference test of any sort. Audiophilia is all about preference, as you know.
