I just wanted to post an update. I've been busy switching over to a projector.

I got the wall mounts and now have them behind a AT Falcon screen. The screen wall is still a WIP and I still have no complaints with the speakers. The wall mounts are really nice for this application!

Awesome. You used Behringer's wall mounts?

Yes, the WB215 on Amazon. It is a nice quality bracket.

WIll the B215XL sound harsh at loud volume level (reference level)? How about fatigue-free?
What's your listening distance to the speaker?

I'm usually up for trying different speakers. Especially when they are at this price. Ordered a pair on amazon and will have them Thursday. Not really a gamble with amazon's return policy. If I like them I'll order a third for the center. Glad I saw this thread and thanks to Mark for starting it. Should be interesting.

Thanks for this post! I was looking for someone that mounted close to the wall. I'm considering these for behind an AT screen as well in an upcoming remodel.

Can anyone share any experience with sound quality when moving these really close to the wall? I know a lot of DIY speakers will build a different crossover for in wall use, etc...

Thanks again! Great info here. can't wait to hear more about the Behringer 18's...

Since you have heard JBL Cinema, Danley, SEOS, and JTR how would you say these compare? I am looking for something like clarity, midbass, dynamics, soundstage, etc. I know it is impossible to compare without being in the same room but you can get an idea.

I might have to find out by directly comparing those exact speakers. I will call a friend who can help and report back.

Can anyone do a frequency response sweep of the B215XL? The guy in this 215D video says it roll of about 110Hz. eek.gif

He says that he didn't measure it, he's just estimating. But the cabinet is far too small to do much better than that. Even within the genre for which it's intended, PA, Behringer doesn't get high marks. They very much trade off high fidelity for high output at a low price.

It's actually much better for home use than for PA use. In general, the reviews I read are very positive. My own impression is that in the home they'll give most speakers a run for their money so long as you use a subwoofer. The exact point where rolloff begins is 90Hz and it's down 3dB at 80Hz. They certainly don't lack fidelity when used in a home theater.

I'm going to ask Gorilla to let me bring my B215XLs over to his humble hangout and perform some measurements and comparisons. I hope he agrees.

No build thread, I just have been on a roll with the upgrades.

You may be interested to hear that my X4000 Audyssey set crossovers at 60 for my LR and C channels. They do sound much much better with the subwoofers and with the few extra bucks I saved I was able to justify a second FV15HP

How much did the X4000 Audyssey set for each speaker trim level?

All speakers set to small, running old Energy takes as surrounds.

Hilarious, from Amazon:

...and are available at insanely low prices. Who wouldn't want to hook up with one of these beauties? biggrin.gif

Mark, your original article and this thread have me pretty close to making this purchase too. I am just wondering what to do for surrounds. I might go with the B212's too, but not sure how I'd mount them. They won't look sexy, but I am sure they'll sound it.

I'm making arrangements to take my pair of B215XLs over to @Gorilla83's (awesome) humble basement hangout where we'll compare them to a pair of 15-inch SEOS Sentinels, which are a DIY kit with a very similar design. The Behringers cost half what the SEOS Sentinels do on a per-unit basis, so it's going to be very interesting to hear the results.

Cool, next week I am comparing my DR-250 arrays against the mighty U215 from Yorkville. People say these are on par with the very best at GTG's so I will know where I stand with my arrays.

Check out this comparison on You Tube. The guy seems rational and informed (especially compared to most of the You Tube crackpots). He uses both the B212's and the B215's and much prefers the B215's. Granted, he is using the powered version in a relatively limited application, but I would assume the drivers and basic sound quality powered vs passive would be similar.

Sorry, I should have said, "I wonder what I'll use for surrounds".

I actually placed my order for the 215XLs from Amazon just a few hours ago. I picked up 2 for now, will play around and make sure I like them as a whole, then will get the center. I just can't see mounting these things up on the wall for surrounds, but hey, never say never. Their angling for floor monitors could make them easy to wall mount....

I am kind of keen on timbre matching, so I might just stick with the 215's. Sounds like I'm slowly talking myslef into this, and the 2 I ordered won't be here until Sat! rolleyes.gif

Does it beat all the other speakers that you've owned for movies?

I haven't watched a movie yet but I think I'll order another one for a CC and pass judgment then.  I ordered the ones off amazon that are priced at $165.98 each in like new condition.

Looking forward to the results. I had thought about doing the Fusion Tempest build but after seeing this thread it saves a lazy old man from physical labor.
