Time for a home theater refresh. I have some older Rocket speakers.

If memory servers, R450 in the front, the "bigfoot" center channel and some smaller surrounds. Subwoofer is about 12 years old.

Room is about 15'x17 used exclusively for home theater. Was looking at the Sony DN1040 for the receiver.

I've never been real happy with the Rockets. They're not bad, but I never felt ... immersed.

Anybody have an opinion on the Energy or Pioneers? Will the be able to fill the room and/or give me a better home theater experience? I'd also like to add a couple more speakers to make it 7.1.

What is your budget?

I would aim higher than Energy and Pioneer

I was hoping to keep it under $1,000 unless there's something a little higher that is too good to pass up.

Main reason is, last time I spent around $2k and I wasn't impressed.

Arx?

Otherwise, Craigslist/Ebay for some good used speakers like Paradigm Studio's or Dynaudio Audience.

The Energy will not keep up - the Pioneer is nice, however somewhat limited.

Look at HTD Level Three bookshelf and center - keep your surrounds
HTD is nice

Does your sub still work.

Sub still works. 10" .... Paradigm I think? I think I bought it around 2000 so it has some miles on it.

Those HDTs look nice. Maybe a little higher than I wanted to spend unless

eBay may be a good idea.

Look at a refurbish Denon receiver - so you can apply more money to speakers

What about Ascend CMT-340 SE? They are about $940 for LCR, I have never auditioned them but a lot of people like them. http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/cmt340m/cmt340m.html

What don't you like about the rockets? I have the 850's & bigfoot and think they are good. I wonder if you would like klipsch speakers for movies.

If you would like to sell your 450's let me know I need to get a smaller tower in the rear of my living room.

I went from Klipsch RF-3's to my Rocket 850's and I miss the "bite" the Klipsch had for movies but prefer the softer side of the Rockets for music.

When you watch movies you could up the treble on your receiver to get more of the highs extended.
