What are the best speakers under $2000 for modern music, i.e. EDM, Rock, Rap, and Pop.

Well, for EDM and Rap, you should have a sub. In that case, bookshelves can work as well as towers since the sub can handle the low frequencies, and towers will not produce the very low frequencies that a sub will.

So do you have a sub already? Or do you need to include one in your budget?

I have the Outlaw LFM-1 EX already and am planning to replace it with the Rythmik FV15HP. It's not just low bass that I care about. I care about sound quality as a whole. For EDM what I don't like about the RTI12s I already have is that they lack upper mid bass (125-200hz). The tweeters lack clarity and detail to me, and I believe something else can sound much cleaner because they don't sound like the cleanest speakers to me.

Well, then you are going to want to listen to speakers, to find out which ones give you want you want.

Also, it's possible that the lack of upper midbass and treble clarity you seek are room acoustic issues. For instance, have you treated for reflections?

If you are serious about wanting a speaker with punch and good all around performance. check out the Pi Threes. Go with the upgraded drivers, they will have more headroom and less distortion, Those will knock the RTi 12s right on their ass. They would be multiple times more powerful than any of the Rti lines.

If I had $2000 to spend on speakers right now, I would check out the new Phil Slim Jr from Philharmonic Audio.

If you are getting a Rythmik FV15HP, then I agree bookshelves would be a smart choice. I would take a look at the new Ascend Sierra-2, it features an excellent tweeter and the measurements are impressive. You may consider buying a pair of sealed Rythmik subs instead; a pair of F12SE would be more accurate and give you more even bass response throughout the room.

You might look at a mid-bass module if it's really important to you. The Hsu MBM-12 MK2 mid bass module is meant for 50 - 250 at a cost of 500.

Then you can get the cleanest speakers for above that, since very low to 250 is covered.

Or - the Philharmonic Audio bookshelves are 850 / pair and are excellent, the center is 800 (through Salk) so including those in a five speaker configuration would give you a great system at 2500.

I'm assuming the Rythmik is already covered, or all bets are off.

The best speakers I have ever heard for $2000 are the PSB Image T6.

Another really good one is the KEF Q900.

One thing about the KEF Q900 is that it has so much bass that it really needs no subwoofer. It has two large LF drivers.

When Stereophile reviewed it, they ran them with and without a subwoofer, and the difference was hard to tell.

Both speakers are excellent; hard to beat.

I have been reading alot of people recommending PSB speakers but to me they don't seem like potent sounding speakers for some reason (I know I wrote the dumbest thing possible), looks don't mean much when it comes to speakers but still lol. So how much of an improvement would the PSB or KEF Q900 be over the RTI12 and Klipsch RF82? Another speaker I was considering is the Focal Chorus based on the reputation Focal has in car audio.

Do the Image T6 sound better than the Polk LSI25 because I can get them both at the same price.

There is no answer to your question...the Polks may sound better to some, the psb better to others (we all already know commysman's opinion). You have to listen to them and decide for yourself...

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

Pretty much sums it up...

That being said check out Polk Direct. There is a pair of LSI25's for 1299.00 and a pair of LSIM705 for 2099.00.

I don't have that opinion on the Q900's. A sub helped them greatly. They just aren't really that great in the bass region. Some folks are easier to please than others I guess. One of my favorites was the LSiM703's with the FV15-HP.

The Polk rti12 may lack clarity, but not midbass 80-200hz. He has room or placement issues. Rti12 treble is very bright and the mid muddles when crank high but midbass from 80-200 is thunderous.

Wow we are pretty much neighbors, I live in Eastvale, used to live in Fontana myself before I moved to eastvale 2 years ago. The Rti12s do have decent mid bass but lack the punch. Which may be in the 150hz-250hz range.

What people wrote here is what drives me away from upgrading. To me if I pay $2000 compared to the $600 I paid for the RTI12 I want to hear considerable improvement that anyone can tell because what's the point of paying almost 4 times as much and you have to make an effort to hear the difference.

Again - check out that mid bass module. If mid bass punch is what you're looking for, that may do it for you.

The Polk LSi speakers have a very good tweeter, one of my favorites actually. I have heard the LSi9 and they were wonderful, I was unable to hear them and the RTi series together but from my recollection I much enjoyed the LSi sound. If I can find a pair of the LSi7 or 9, I am buying them up, even though I don't need any more speakers.

For me I would go with ID speakers, I think you get more bang for your buck. So for me it will be Ascend Sierra-2's @ $1484 shipped. http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/SRM2/srm2.html

Philharmonitor are $850 with shipping included. http://philharmonicaudio.com/folio-me/html/Phil%20Pages/bookshelf.html

Monitor Audio Silver 2's, Paradigm Studio 20's, Dynaudio, Revel, Kef, etc.

There are many choices in your price range that can be suggested and there is no perfect but you can get hi fidelity sound with your budget, so good luck and enjoy the journey and get out and audition at your audio shops.

I'm in Eastvale all the time. I can do some room measurement to see why you lack mid bass. I had those rti and sold it. If you need a bad ass sub. A friend is selling his 18" DIY sub for 190.00, let me know and I'll tell him. I have too many subs already and this sub will kill a pb13 or any other 2k subs. You just need a inuke 3000dsp amp to drive it.

Is there any way you can demo it? $190 correct? And how old is it?

What did you buy after selling your RTI12? what would be an upgrade from the RTI12s? I don't care about bass only. I want better SQ. I have read quite a few reviews of the SVS Ultra Towers and people have upgraded to them from the RTI12s and liked them alot. What do you guys think of the SVS Ultra Towers?
