Hello. I'm building a home theater in my house and though space is not actually a problem the loudness of the speakers is. It's useless in my case to have big speakers because definitely, for the moment, (a little child and condo neighbors) I can't turn loud the speakers. I'm accustomed to B&W sound as I use MM-1 B&W speakers in my PC and I love it. I think for my needs I need small compact speakers and I was browsing some brands models like B&W which offers a home theater solution with several M-1 speakers + a subwoofer, Focal with is Bird Little 5.1 combo, KEF with it's E Series combo and other offerings like Definitive Technology. I now the best answers is that I need to audition all those speakers but based on your experience and knowledge, which of those brands solutions would you recommend? Other ideas? As you can probably see I'm definitely a SQ guy and I rather have good SQ over other features. Thank you!!

A energy take classic 5.1 will do the job, those mentioned brands are over pricey for satellite speakers.

If you are going to spend that money on over pricey satellite speakers, a best option is to get some bookshelf speakers instead of satellite speakers.

Panasonic 65VT60 / Marantz SR7005 / Marantz UD7007 /PSA XS30 /Revel Performa3 F206 / Revel Performa3 C205 / Revel Surrounds/Sonos Connect/ Roku 3 / Amazon Fire tv / Xbox One / HTPC / Darbee 5000 /Sonos system for rooms/Master bedroom Sonos sound bar/Sonos sub and Sonos play 1 surrounds.

Thank you for such a great recommendation. I truly wasn't aware of that set of speakers (Energy Take Classic 5.1) and all the reviews I have been reading are quite enthusiastic towards them.

In brands like Marantz or Onkyo, which AV receiver with the most set of features would you recommend? I would like a feature loaded receiver but not overkill given the amplifier power that set of speakers requiere. 10% will be used in watching movies via BluRay and 90% will be used in watching movies via a WD Live box via the .mkv format and/or Apple TV.

Up to $1000 if it was the case though I don't want anything overkill.

Being in a condo, a subwoofer can be problematic, but is your budget for a 5.1 or a 5.0?

spending 1,000 on a satellite system is a waste of money buy the energy satellites with a sub for around $350 or see if you can get then cheaper and a av receiver from accessories4less.

My budget is for a 5.1 and the subwoofer won't be a problem if I don't turn it all the way. I just need the extra-punch the sub can provide.

Here's a couple threads to peruse where people were wanting to spend $1000 for 5.1; search may find more...

4k support not really. The calibration mic sounds interesting. Does it really work or is it just a gimmick?

Do you only need a 5.1 speakers setup or you have plans to upgrade to 7.1 or more speakers?

5 NHT SuperZero 2.1s and a $500 sub like the SVS SB or PB 1000 would be a great system.

I had 5 of the SZ 2.0s and they were great. I upgrade because I wanted more volume and more dynamics. The SZ can get loud though, even with my 50 watt/channel AVR.

A $500 dollars sub in this situation not worth the spend.

Thank you for that suggestions. Seems pretty good with all it's features including the possibility of control via iPhone and the AirPlay feature. I guess the "Audyssey Auto Setup and EQ Technology" is their calibration feature, right?

Are you going to live in the condo indefinitely? I ask this because a child will grow older and you might move into a bigger living space.

If that is a probability, I would get some better speakers than the Energy system that was suggested.

Also, how big is your space?

That also might lead to the need to get better speakers.

Remember, you don't have to turn them up full blast.

Thank you all for all responses. I think the best way to get you the idea of my "home theater" is to post a picture. As you can figure, the main "problem" I have with the sound is that it is an open space in my house. I was talking about small speakers because big speakers like the ones you can see in the picture are a complete waste in my case because I can't even turn the volume past 15%. Also I am done working with big speakers, I like the flexibility of small speakers. Basically all the components and TV you see there are going to be gone because I am getting a new HDTV (75" Samsung F6300 or F6400) and all the amplifiers and preamplifiers an a old (2005) NAD A/V receiver you see there were for my stereo listening days in my other house and now I hear music in my office room in the house or via iPod dock speakers. The days of hearing my music loud is gone (my speakers are Triangle from France) but I don't miss it much (I can always turn up the volume on the hi-fi of my car! smile.gif

Basically I'm looking for simplicity but with the best SQ possible. That's why in simplicity's sake I won't be using much my BluRay player because nowadays I just download movies and watch it.

I was going the audiophile-SQ way with B&W or KEF options but now I'm very seriously looking the Energy set based on the suggestion in this forum and all the rave reviews. Hopefully I can hear them next week I'll be in Miami.

Any more suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

As I mentioned, NHT SuperZero- one of the best sounding $100 speakers you're going to find. IMO a significant step up from the Energies.

Sure it is. The SB-1000 is not a large, ported sub SPL monster. It's a small sealed sub with excellent SQ. It will sound great at low volumes.

Small satellite speakers like the Energys have no midbass. So a larger bookshelf speaker that don't quite need the lower crossover of the Energys can sound better, even at lower volumes.

Now if you want to go smaller just for lifestyle reasons because you like the smaller size otherwise, Kinis suggestion of the SuperZeros is a good one. If you could go a bit larger, these EMP Teks would be very nice.
