Thoughts anyone? Paul

Also, look at MB Quart Alexxa B1 on close-out pricing
$470 a pair with shipping
http://shop.mbquart.com/p/as-b1pb-pair?pp=24

A subjective review here - where the person states that they remind him of
Totem and Dynaudio.

How would these compare to the JBL Studio 530?

If you went with a center speaker what would work with these?

Thank for all of the suggestions.

2 weeks until I "pull the trigger".

Paul

I own their high-end Vera bookshelf speakers, which are in another (higher)
league compared to the JBL

I have not listened to the Alexxa - however, I expect the Alexxa and Studio 530
to be close - it will come down to preference and taste.

The Alexxa looks sharp/good, as MB Quart did/does make good stuff. There has
been no real complaints on the Alexxa speakers.

I would get another pair of the Alexxa, and use one as a vertical center speaker.
Then have a spare speaker - it is a good option and the price is worth it.

I guess that the book shelf would work but the design doesn't lend itself to be placed on its side, IMO.

The bookshelf would work better in vertical placement.

The regular Alexxa center channel is sold out - vertical bookshelf centers still
tend to work better, over horizontal mtm center speakers.

Agreed. The exact same speaker (used vertically) is optimal for the best timbre match.

Guys, I'm still thinking about the LCR.

Given the room layout what do you all think about speaker type/placement for rear surrounds
? Would dipoles work (1 on the wall @ 90 degrees to the couch and one on top of a shelf unit the other side?)

Thanks

Paul

Best Buy - B&W C5's - O.K. - open box $1100 / pair.
Next I listened to some Totem Mite - very nice.

Then the Totem Rainmaker - i liked these very much - $1300 per pair. I was convinced that they had the center channel on - but no, it was "just" stereo.

Which, made me think. If I can get bookshelf speakers that can do that why have a center at all?

+1 on the Totem Rainmaker. I heard these yesterday and almost bought them but I wanted to listen to more speakers first. Also thinking about ordering a pair of the Focal's and testing them out. Let me know what stores you demo at, I'm in the same boat. I heard the Totem's at myHome Media and also went to Star Power (not great).

myHome Media has another store In Allen off Stacy Road. From what the sales guy told me they have a larger selection there, not sure if that's where you went the first time or not. Also I sent you a PM.

I already have a "small sub", but thanks anyway.

Have you tried HTD in East Plano?

Not having a center channel, in that small space, may be a good option for you. Just spend some time getting the stereo pair to image well and you can just go "phantom" center. Very cost effective solution, as well.

That is a good deal for Focal

Hi

What about Ascend Acoustics Sierra-2's?

There don't seem to be many reviews online. Or, I couldn't find them.

I haven't done anything yet. I may have managed to bump myself up to Ascend Acoustics Sierra-2's. My move was delayed, only got into the apartment yesterday.

I'd like to hear some Sierra-2's.

Well you can hear them if you are willing to pay the shipping both ways.

They allow for in home trial of their speakers but you got to pay the shipping cost. both ways.
