I understand one is a bookshelf and the other is a tower. However, if this deal goes through they will be around the same price.

I have done much research this past week and really had my heart set on the E55TI. But then that deal fell through and I came across the JBL 530. Have not seen a single person talk bad about the 530. Now looks like I may be able to get a good deal on the Emptek's again. I am honestly 50/50 between the two speakers right now.

They will be used 100% HT. Also, I will most likely NOT have a sub. Just 2.0 for now and then possibly 3.0 down the road.

Appreciate any feedback!

I think you should first decide whether you want a tower speaker or a bookshelf/monitor speaker.

Since you say you are not going to have a sub, the answer is; get a tower speaker with enough bass for movie watching.

That means a rated frequency response down to at least 40 Hz or lower.

The E55TI is rated to go down to 40 Hz, so that will probably work OK. NO bookshelf speaker will have enough bass to use without a subwoofer.

The JBL Studio 530 actually might possibly be called a tower speaker, at 19 inches high, but it does not have a low enough frequency response, does not sound very good to me, and it has very poor sensitivity to boot. I would not recommend it to anyone, for any purpose.

The Monitor Audio BX-6 is a much better-sounding tower speaker IMO, and is rated to go down to 34 Hz; that would be my recommendation.

The Monitor Audio Bronze BX is the matching center speaker.

OP just be advised that this "information" aside from being wrong, is pure conjecture. commyssyman has never heard the JBL 530, has no idea what it sounds like, nor is it inefficient. It's about average in efficiency.

If you're not using a sub then of course go with the large speaker.

If you're not totally set on the EMPTek take a look at the Arx A5, they won the home theater shack sub $1K speaker shootout. They are out of stock right now though, but if you can wait, they seem to be a great speaker for the money.

Take a look at some of the Focals that are usually on sale at Music Direct or other vendors.

The EMPs are nice but don't have a ton of bass according to the HTS shootout.

I guess sometimes humor can be interesting!smile.gif

The JBL Studio 530 is a bookshelf - however, it still plays below 50 hz.

I have owned them and do highly recommend them.

They are good for both music and HT - and they are not that hard to drive, plus
they can/will get Loud. The all around word on that speaker is positive.

Some speakers that others have preferred the Studio 530 over are >>
Aperion Intimus 5B, Ascend Acoustics Sierra, Audioengine P4, Axiom Audio M22,
B&W 683 & 685, Dali Mentor & Icon, Dynaudio Contour & Focus, Epos Epic 1,
GoldenEar Triton & Aon, Linn, NHT Classic 3, Magnepan MMG & 1.6,
Monitor Audio Silver RS6 & RX1, RSL CG4, Revel F12, and Tekton Design Model 4.5.

Your option and call - the choice is up to you - enjoy the adventure.
