I don't understand.
I started with a Denon 1513 + boston acoustics mcs 160.
They came together as a package, and the speakers were obviously nothing special.
Well needles to say I didn't like the sound at all.
I went to a friend place who has A Bose 2.1 system and I thought I sounded great.
Now, knowing that Bose is not great quality and overpriced, I decided to buy some nice speakers: surely some good Polk would blow the Bose away!
So I got a polk csia4 center and 2 polk rtia1 as fronts.
I kept the Boston acoustic subwoofer and the two satellites.
I set them up, crossover set at 80 for center and front, 120 for the satellites, subwoofer set at 120 for LTE.
I was underwhelmed.
How could it be? Maybe because they are on the floor?
Ok then, let's buy proper stands. Another $200.
A bit better.
That night I go to my friend's house for dinner.
We watch some tv and sure enough I think his Bose sounds way better than my system.
I know for sure that can't possibly be, so I ask you good people, what is it?
Is it the receiver? Is it the sub?
It just sounds so boxy in the midrange. Sounds like people are talking with a mask on, regardless of the dialogue coming from the center or the front speakers, I tried both.
I would really appreciate am expert opinion.
