Just looking for some guidance. Looking for a 5.1 setup. Kind of budget but want decent stuff. I'd say about 500 bucks for speakers. I'll be getting an av reciever soon. Also, what do you think about tower speakers? Is bic a good brand?

What are your goals? Music and movies? Any gaming? Without knowing this information I can give you a few ideas to start with:

Haven't heard these, but bought the HD300 for a relative with good results.

These are rumored to be the same as Energy Take 5 classic or at least comparable in price for performance.

You may also consider starting out a 5.1 setup with that budget--maybe start out with some decent bookshelves and then work to a center, floors, sub, etc.

Yamaha HTR-6050 + JBL Studio 530 + Studio 520C

Yes. Movies and music mainly. I normally have a headset for games but I'm sure that would be cool in surround sound. I made a post in a different section as well for recievers. I seen the denon x1000 or the e300 is on sale through amazon. Would one of these be a good route to go? Or would you prefer a different brand similar to those models?

I use a Denon to power my B&Ws and a Yamaha for my JBLs, both of which I am pleased with in terms of performance. I just recently purchased the Yamaha for $40 on craigslist, so that might be an option for you to maybe put some more into your speakers.

This one is nice for 189 http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavre300/denon-avr-e300-5.1-3d-networking-receiver-airplay/1.html -- looks to be fully featured: Sub EQ, Audyssey, 5.1, 75 WPC.

Yes. They are an authorized dealer and well respected here.

My advice would be to read a bunch of similar threads to your request to get ideas for both receivers and speakers. There's tons of info/knowledge in this forum smile.gif
