I just joined this site and love it so far, so much information it is easy to get overwhelmed.

My question is I have an opportunity to purchase a used Synergy 5.1 system for 350 and wanted to get some opinions on it.

What is in the system is:

4-S-20

1 C-20

1 KW-100

Currently all I have is a pair Polk Audio R50 attached to a Yamaha Aventage 720. I have never had a true 5.1 system in my life so this would be a big change. I am just not sure if the money is worth it and if I would miss my R50's.

I would love to hear you all share your thoughts.

Your best bet is to listen to it and then you can decide for yourself.

Are those model #'s correct? Aren't the S-20's surround speakers? It would be quite strange to have 4 of them in a 5.1 setup.

Yes those are the right part number and yes they are the surround speakers.

Its probably going to sound weird with your Polk R50's towers and a C-20 Center channel.

"Surround" speakers aren't ment to be the front speakers in any set-up

You could use the 4xS-20's as surround and rear speakers in a 7.1 setup, but not as the main L/R. And the center wouldn't be timber-matched with your current mains, most likely. FYI the S-20's have woofers angled in opposite 45 degree angles, and is designed to have the sound bounce off walls. I will admit that the price is pretty good, but you can't use that system as-is as a replacement for your existing speakers. If he's willing to part the set, grab a pair of S-20's and maybe the subwoofer if the price is good, then purchase a matching Polk center for your R50's separately.
