After readind this whole thread and another thread l posted on l am not going for high priced speaker wire.l was going to spend about $500 for 200 feet of wire but for what.I have 50 foot runs to fronts and think l should go with 12 gauge OFC,but want 4 cond in wall and can not find it for a fair price.I was told to keep wires as far away from electric one to two feet if possable, and speakers wire at least 2'' from each other If l go with 2 -2cond to bi wire will l be able to run both in same hole with out losing anything, having to make 3 holes for fronts with 2 wires in each hole.

If however, you passed these test you should audition some good cable to see if you can hear an improvement.

Given blind testing with cables, some can hear an improvement (and think it is worthwhile), and some can't.

Err
I think you got it backwards :) For acoustics a cheap cable will do. For aesthetics the cable has to fit the decor ;)

Blind testing the cable has proven that there IS NO difference between cable X and lamp zip cord.

Hell my little space heater from Holmes pulls 1500 watts on high and it has 18 AWG wire!!!!

here is the marking on this bad boy

If you see someone pass a properly conducted blind test on cables you might suggest they cash in. There are challenges issued from time to time by David Clark, Tom Nousaine, and others sometimes with a substantial wager included. I don't know if it's still going on, but there was a pot of around $6000 being held by some regulars at rec.audio for anyone who could pass the challenge.

I think he had in mind hiding the cable as much as possible, at one point I was running the thinnest cable I could find at Home Depot, 22 ga or something, simply because I could hide it so well ... it sounded exxcceelllente'!

Theres some nice looking audio cable out there, dont you call it audio jewelry? Makes the whole system LOOK like it sounds better, haha.

"are high-end speaker wires bunk?"

This topic is the same as discussing politics or religion. If you think so then - yes, if you don't think so then - no.

Although, I don't subscribe to the thought that higher cost makes a better product. I have heard differences in my system with different interconnects and speaker wires. Not huge differences but subtle differences. Did, I buy the most expensive? No, I bought the one that sounded right to me in my system. Just my opinion.

the whole article can be found here:

Have been unsuccessful for days accessing the about URL. It eventually just times out. Do you have another way to get to the article?
