Hi, I was wondering what users of the Polk 75T Monitor Speakers thought of their performance, sound, and overall quality? I am a drummer and prefer not to use ear/head phones, but prefer to use powerful speakers with a receiver hooked up to my laptop. Would these be good/great for loud applications?
Thanks - Brandon
Also, to be clear, are these speakers able to handle up to 275 RMS or 275 watts? Right now I've been using 75 watt Technics (3 way) and just got a Sony STR-DH130 270 watt Receiver. So, I would be using the Polks with a 270 watt Receiver to be clear.
Just so you know, the Sony is 270 output but not 270 per channel...more like somewhere between 100 and 135wpc, so your Monitor 75t's that are rated 20-275 will be fine. Most speakers are affected more by underpowering them and then trying to turn the volume up all the way on your receiver, causing spikes.
The Polk's are decent budget speakers, I have owned some of the Monitor speakers and they offer good value when on sale. They are a bit bright for my taste, and for your needs I would probably look at a studio monitor to get the most accurate playback. Something like the Behringer 2031P would be a great choice. What is your budget for speakers?
