Need a recommendation for low budget bookshelf speakers

Hi all,

I need a recommendation for a pair of bookshelf speakers for a mid-size room for stereo listening. I mainly listen to jazz and classic rock. Budget is around $100-$150 for the speakers only.. another $100-$150 for the amp. Saw that the Pioneer SP-BS22-LR are getting good reviews, anyone has an opinion on these?

Thanks!

The Pioneer's are very good budget speakers. The Infinity Primus speakers are also very good. I think those are your best choices.

There isn't a place to buy used equipment in NYC. You're best bet is Craigslist. If you're patient, you'll find something. Of course eBay is an option as well.

Thank you! I used to own the mission m31.. How are these compared? Are they better/worse?

Thanks!

Stereo Exchange in NYC sells used equipment and also have an eBay store.

I haven't been there in years. I didn't know that.

Hi nadav,

I also live around NYC, and I sent you a Private Message through this site about what you were asking about.

Best,

Bob

I have no idea how they compare to the Missions. But honestly, for your budget, I wouldn't even worry about it.

Here are your best choices for new, best bang for your buck, speakers.

1. Pioneer bookshelf

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Subwoo...neer+subwoofer

2. Infinity bookshelf

http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Primu...inity+speakers

3. Infinity floorstanding speaker.

The Pioneer is excellent, one of the best values out there, but the Infinity will go a bit lower. It is a bit more money though. The floor standing Infinity is off the charts for a floor standing value. But again, you're spending a bit more.

Some receiver/amplifier choices (You've gotta go used here, but that's okay):

Get your cables from Monoprice. If you go with one of the bookshelf speakers, keep in mind you'll need to buy stands if you don't already have them.

Good luck

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I will check them out. In the meanwhile I found a few more options.. What do you think of these?
