5.1 speaker config?

I just purchased a onkyo tx-nr828 receiver and i have paradigm speakers. I was reading the manual and a 5.1 includes center, front, surround right and left speakers. i dont have space to mount the surround right and left, so i mounted my speakers and in the back. Currently I have my back speakers plugged in as surround right and left. Should I plug them as back speakers instead?

thanks for your advice.

That configuration should work just fine.

General rule of thumb for surrounds in a 5.1 setup is to the side of you, and slightly back.

But of not, behind you is prefered over ahead of you, even directly behind you is usually better than even slightly ahead of you.

And leave them plugged in as surround, not surround back, much more information goes to the side surrounds than the rears.
