Help identifying speakers (quality??)

Based on the pictures below, can anyone tell me the model number of these speakers? I would be buying them used for $90. (budget is small)

Also, would it make sense to pair these with a 12" subwoofer which I already own or should I just go with bookshelf speakers?

Thanks!

PS- they look similar to Sony SS-F7000 but not quite

What does the plate say on the back. There is usually a model number there.

They could be the Sony SS-F6000's. Or an older generation of those speakers

Subwoofers are never a bad idea especially if you already have one.

I do not know that Sony model number - however, I do not like the sound
signature from that series.

I would go with some nice bookshelf speakers, if your sub is really decent.
I would want speakers with better detail and definition, in the mids and highs

However, your call - $90 is not a bad price

The person I would be buying them from said there isn't a plate on the back. If they are an older generation of the Sony SS-F6000's would the quality degrade much over the years?

I see what you mean. Just throwing this out there because of my budget, as far as detail in the mids and highs, would I get more from these sony floor speakers or these Dayton Audio B652 bookshelf speakers :http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-...-pair--300-652 ?

Not really I use speakers from 1990 and they sound just as good today as they did when my parents first bought them.

First if you want any advice i suggest you give us your audio goals. (how are you planning to use these speakers, and for what purpose.)
Second what is your absolute max budget?
Third what do you have currently. (Please give us the make and model number of all the equipment you currently have.)

Those Dayton's suck in my opinion but they are $35 so you can't expect much.

Skip them Dayton speakers

As stated above give a little more info

The new Sony Core speakers are the good ones

However for a tight budget - the Pioneer BS22 are nice, and is $79 here.

I have:
-Sony STR-DH550 receiver
-Sony SA-WM500 subwoofer 12" 150watt
-and currently some lg surround speakers and center speaker that came from this: http://www.lg.com/us/home-theater-sy...theater-system

My goals are for a good 3.1 setup that is better than the Sony 770 soundbar I was going to buy for $350. So my budget is around $350. I'll be doing mostly tv/movie watching and occasionally listen to some music.

I spent $230 on the Sony STR-DH550 receiver, $45 on the subwoofer, and I will spend $90 on those sony floorspeakers if I go that rout for a total of $365. The lg speakers were all free.

I went this route because with a soundbar I would never be able to upgrade. At least now I have some flexibility for the future. Also, I bought the receiver I did because I have a 4k television so it was important for my receiver to have HDMI 2.0 ports

Budget is not the total you spent, its how much you are willing to spend.

There might be better options than the Sony floorstanders.

You need to keep in mind that matching centers are important speakers for the front left and right so your NEED to consider the cost of a matching center when looking at front left and right speakers.

You are going to smart route but don't jump on something without looking at the big picture.

I guess I should of said my budget was $350 but now I have already spent $275 on a sub and receiver. My remaining budget is $350-275= $75 which I need to buy two front speakers and a center speaker. (kind of impossible)

I do have the front and center speakers from that lg home theater in a box set I mentioned above that I can use in the meantime.

$75 dollars will not go far.

Start with the those random speakers if they sound good to you but try to get them for less than $90

I don't normally recommend Fluance but if you are looking for three speakers for $75, here's about as close as you are going to get. YOu can return them, but I think you have to pay return shipping, you'd have to check with them, but here you go:
Bookshelves
http://fluance.com/product/SV10S_Hig...rs.eng-54.html
Center
http://fluance.com/product/SV10C_Hig...er.eng-32.html
Use coupon code FRIENDS1 at checkout for $25 off and you end up with 3 matched speakers for 90 shipped.

Your welcome

Hi bargugl,
can you check my new thread? Do you think these fluance speakers will be better than the pioneer sp-c22 and sp-fs52's I just purchased?

I haven't ever done a direct comparison between the pioneer and fluance, but I would stick with the pioneers.
