One thing I will add is check Craigslist in your area. I've seen some people selling off entire systems for less than half the original costs due to moving, upgrading, etc. They're generally still setup and will let you come audition to make sure everything works and you like the sound. You may also be able to find a speaker/component that was suggested here by a member.

Why the Denon e300? You can purchase the X1000 from Amazon for the same $280 price AND get 3 years of warranty instead of 1yr due to being refurb'd.

Also, if I was putting together a budget setup and needed bookshelves for fronts...I'd be looking at the Ascend 340's and ARX A2's. Maybe a few others. If you can wait until Black Friday you can get a KILLER deal on EMP stuff.

Yes. Nice system.

Although you probably don't need the 340 SEs for the rear. CBM-170s would be great for that. In fact, if you need to cut your budget a little to start, go with the CBM-170 SEs for front left/righ with the 340 SE center. Then you can upgrade your system down the road by getting a pair of 340 SEs for the front.

I also agree that stepping up to the X1000 makes sense for the little bit extra money.

I absolutely prefer new over refurbished, I guess it will be the X1000. I just closed on the house today and starting renovations tomorrow. As soon as we are done I will see what kind of budget I can come up with for the home theater. Ideally I would like to spend 10,000 but that just isn't in the cards. I would rather wait an extra month or so and get the 340's.

I hateeeee craigslist!!! the worst schemers and scammers, at least out here in NY. I posted my mobile phone for sale and got nothing but low balling pikers and sob stories about traveling children to Africa that are begging to paypal me extra money for shipping. But never hurts to look.
