check out these towers
Sherwood Tower Speakers - $800
http://houston.craigslist.org/ele/4553715159.html

They're gorgeous.
I know sherwood makes decent receivers and components for other brands. I know the speakers are only available over seas in Australia and other countries. Hardly anything is known here in the states.
I have read they are decent speakers to they are great value speakers & a few they're junkreviews.

Problem is...I can't seem to find these specific towers. The seller says he got them in Dubai where they are really popular. He gave me model numbers sp8300 & sp3600. Claims they sound amazing and uses a def tech mythos 10 cc for timber matching. He also claims they were 2 grand a speaker and 200 watt per channel speaker and the cabinets alone are worth 3x his asking price...

Scary to even consider a speaker I can't find replacement parts for let alone the specs.

I need y'all. I'm so curious. I need to know about these speakers.

Thank you!

I'd try contacting Sherwood directly and asking them about the speakers. Give them the model number and tell them you just want to know if they're legit.

Of course, I got it modified with the TK-427, which cheeks it up another, maybe, 3 or 4 quads per channel.

Wow, new one on me.
They may be ok, but I'd be concerned that they're all looks and little performance. Honestly, no idea.

Sherwood, in general, makes low-priced junk. As far as I can tell, nothing they make is particularly "decent". Their product support is almost non-existent.

There is no way I would spend $800 on something used with unknown quality, especially with the Sherwood name. He can claim anything he wants to, can't he?

The model numbers, if they are correct, are no doubt european model numbers.

In Dubai, where every other guy is an oil millionaire, some real crap is sold to the unwary for ridiculous prices, so Dubai prices mean nothing.

I suggest that you stick to well-known products from a speaker manufacturer with a great long-term track record, like KEF, PSB, Monitor Audio, Vandersteen, or Focal.

For that price, you can get a nice pair of speakers that ARNT a huge question mark! I would walk away from that one and while I don't agree with Commysman that Sherwood is junk, they aren't know for high end either...

Sherwood is popular in other countries - it can not hurt to listen to them
I would not be quick to call them junk.

Thank you everyone for all your knowledge and prompt replies.

There is a guy a bit further that has a monitor audio radius 5.0 (tower for mains) for only 20p. Think I'll pick that up until I find something specific

After taking a quick look at some link.
I notice solid wood!
A speaker should not made of solid wood since it is not an intrument but try to reproduce sound.
Therfore it should be made of MDF or marine ply-wood.

Violon, guitar are made with solid wood.
But they are made to produce a sound.
A speaker is suppose to Re-produce a sound and not make sound of their own!

I would stay away from any speakers with solid wood (other than the few that use it for cosmatic on the outside, but use MDF inside).

Just a thought

interesting that someone would claim to have bought these speakers for $8k but then sell them for only $800. says a lot about the legitimacy of the post.
